Socket 754's 4000+ Newark

Hi

yes they are really good chips, but having said that its not worth it. simply because the price and last time i checked they were going for about 150-170 price bracket(last time - 3-4 months ago). now for 150 pounds you could get yourself a 3700+ or 4000+ 939 chip with motherboard and use your old ram,all this for less than a 150 pounds. or you could even buy a x2 3800+ and a motherboard for about 150!

they mobile 4000 newark overclock to about 3-3.1 ghz. Now considering that the 939 3700+ give you roughly the same, you can start to see my point and that also 939 x2 3800 dual cores overclock to 2.8ghz.

so no don't buy it.

Yeah, I know where you're comming from. The wise thing would be do upgrade to 939, but I'm going to do a big upgrade after Vista is out. My Current rig is keeping me happy, just lacking CPU Powa!!. And I want to hit that magic 3GHz barrier. Can't find anyone in the UK who stocks them, best bet is an auction site, even then I saw on sell for about £80 brand new.

if its only £80, then great go for it. But those things are very iffy when it comes to motherboard, cant remember if your dfi lanparty works with the newarksl, best to check this.

also if you cant get 3ghz, how about 2.8ghz from a 3700+ 754, they are good chips and you might be able to get one from auction for about the same price, or try the members market wanted section.

i have another idea for upgrade, you could get a the E6300 conroe and one of those asrock motherboard, which works with ddr1 and its agp, its only 32 pounds. that could be another option which wont set you back more than 150. obviously its not as fast as full ddr2, but its not that much slower either and it saves you buying yourself ddr2 ram, and you could always sell some of your gear to recoup some of the cost

My Motherboard has the latest BIOS which support it. Some 3700+ I have seen at 3GHz, but not sure about them. I don't want to go Conroe :p don't ask why. Not yet, I'm a bit of an AMD Biased person. I will however consider it, and maybe go for it. Only trouble is, if I want a 4000+ I'll need to import it.

EDIT: Out of my 3000+ I can get 2.6GHz stable. Pretty good I reckon, at 1.7core, but temps idle at around 34c and full load hit 42c.
