Socket 775 choices?

Hi guys,

Looks like my P5N32-E SLI is about to die a death and I was wondering what the "in-vogue" board is right now. Originally I went for this board because of the nforce 680 chipset.

Anyway I have the choice of any 775 board, preferably Asus since I'm fairly familiar with the bios although I could be swayed. What is the chipset of choice at the moment?

My rig is:

core2duo 6700
corsair xms2 ddr2 800mhz ram
7800gtx (to be replaced with a next gen dx10 card when they arrive)
x-fi fatality 7.1 sound card

Any recommendations would be appreciated, but please tell me why that one is better than my current one

You could probably get a replacement from Asus, isnt it?

Yeah I will but I'm not prepared to eat 14 days of downtime, or however long their RMA takes. I will probably replace it and then RMA the faulty one, end up reusing the replacement for another PC.

It's not 100% dead but the post is flakey at best, and I've already replaced the RAM and RMAd the gfx card. That only really leaves the mobo and the cpu. I think it got a power surge during all these storms, even though I have a protector.

Well there are some good ones out there, for me if SLI isn't an issue I'd go with a P5K deluxe.

Why would you choose that chipset over the 680?

The cost for one, and I have always had a good experience with the P5 range. Overclocking is easy enough, and SLi isn't my thing.

well do you want the p35 chipset?

if so the p5k would do fine, if you want the older chipset (965? iirc) then get the p5b.

Much appreciated guys, the P35 arrived this morning and its up and running now. I must admit the layout is much nicer in terms of convenience and the mini pci wireless and extra usb slots are a plus also.
