Socket 775 DDR3 Motherboard recommendations please

mmmmm interesting reading as I am currently in the same situation myself.

I have looked at buying a used motherboard and upgrading that way but to be honest the price people are asking really make me think it's going to be better to go the i5 2500k route as suggested byt cmdr andi.

A little more thinking to be done for me but I would love to hear how you finished up with this craigt1989

Brilliant thread guys, given me a lot of help and food for thought with my first build after my 9 year old Alienware (P4 2.8Ghz, 1GB RDRAM, Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB, 60GB HDD !) finally packed up on me. I too am looking at a 775, and definitely don't have the budget for the i5. I was originally just focusing on the P45 chipset but looking at the Gigabyte G41 recommended by andi it's a fantastic price and capable of up to 8GB of DDR3, but it's an mATX - does this really matter? My Alienware case is a beast, plenty of room so was looking initially at ATX only.

As you can see from my Alienware spec, I don't need to have a top range PC, and don't have the budget for it, plus there are plenty of games out there over the last 5 years that I haven't been able to play yet which will keep me busy, so if you're still happy with the G41 recommendation, what Core 2 Quad and graphics card should I get? Can I get both for around £100? Or if not a quad then a good dual

Many thanks

Chris

[EDIT] Having said all that, there are also a lot of new, different G41 boards: two I've found that look good are ASUS P5P41T and ASRock G41C-GS that has the X4500 accelerator - are there any limitations on the boards I should be looking to avoid? I.e. Max 4GB RAM rather than 8GB. Or pros I should be looking for?

You'd better edit that post.
