socket 939 3000+ how dated???

Thanks the FPS and the winrar tests have shown that I wanna upgrade.

/runs off screaming to overclockers.co.uk with c-c in hand

The 3000 will do at least 2500, probably 2700 if its a decent stepping.

Has the op got a good enough mobo though?

I have 2 venice 3000+ both now running @ 2.7ghz & sweet as a nut. Did have 2.8ghz out of them both but had some stability problems with CSS.
Get clocking!!!!

3000+ Venice will be perfectly fine in a low - mid range gaming setup.

It will also be fine for everything else out there (that we do on a Desktop computer) it will just take longer.

Excellent post below!

with a venice 3000 @ 2.5/2.6, 2gig ram, and a 7800gt oc ive run everygame so far on highest settings.
Apart from anno at the moment ('cus I'm on stock, so cpu at 1.8 due to borkage) its running on high/med settings and not on 16x12.

I'm just an average jo pc user, play a few games, watch a few films, dont do hardcore HD film encoding while running 7 prime95 cycles for 48 hours and unrar'ing 1TB of stuff at the same time (exaggeration...), so it does everything I want perfectly well.

IMO a decent clocked venice is still good for a good gaming machine, who cares if you get 400 fps, 30-60 is perfectly acceptable and smooth :)

So clock the nads off it, save yourself some squid. No one moans about 3700's being too slow now do they ;)
