Socket 939 CPU's

Whether that is a better upgrade for your 939 board (assuming they release new X2s) than buying a Core 2 Duo is another topic altogether. Myself I say an Athlon 64 @ 2.6 (2.8 in his case) Ghz with an X1900 XT (again that the poster I was talking to has) there is really not a worthwhile gain purely from a gaming point of view.

Didn't know of any "possible" future 939 upgrade... And also, with these "X's "+'s X2s' its easy to get confused what's socket 939 - and what isn't! - I was assuming by speedy2004's post that X2 5000+ was 939 socket?? - since he wants to upgrade form FX-55 (939 but it is a AM2 socket I believe. :(

"AMD 5400-S-939" - now that would be less confusing!:) - - but then again, wouldn't one have to look at different kinds of memory?

There are X2s (dual core Athlon 64s) on both 939 and AM2 but on 939 they are now rare and it was considered to be end of line.

I myself thought no more were being produced but apparently so, perhaps X2 5000+, X2 5200+ models and maybe 65nm.

He was referring to the possibility of it being released on 939 (as currently FX-60 and X2 4800+ are the highest 939 models) and yes if you went AM2 it requires DDR2.

Well here is a bit of an update... Ordered some components yesterday from our supplier and asked him about the 939 CPU's and he blatantly denied that he had told me about the CPU's... I told him word for word what he said and he was like "I didnt say that!" What an idiot! Anyway... We have good ties to AMD/ATI so i will see if i can find some information via them...

lol wow. Anyone else you can ask?

I have my contact at ATI/AMD sitting across from me now and he has confirmed that AMD will be starting reproduction of the AMD X2 4200+ and above in S939 format sometime in the new year. He cannot tell me when it is or if they will be 65nm either but there is definately a production allocation for S939 based CPU's.

:)

Think Ill hold off looking for an opteron for a bit then :). TBH my 3000+ @ 2.4 with 1800xt works great for me anyway. But, I think a newer cpu in the new year would be great. I want to stay sk.939 for as long as possible. I dont run any multi core supported apps so conroe is wasted on me + I like the sk.939 commnity :)

hmm, im gonna ring up amd and ask one of the reps if i should go out and buy a conroe system or do they have any plans for s939 in the future ;)
