Socket Covers

We're putting our son into his first proper bed soon and I need to eliminate access to his double socket. I'm aware that socket covers are a thing but I'm struggling to find one that can be used with a surface mounted back box.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

You need to really know what you’re doing to defeat the inbuilt protection of UK sockets. The only covers that might be ok are the ones that cover the entire faceplate. We researched and then didn’t bother as the faceplate ones wouldn’t be secure enough on our sockets.

As above really, avoid the plug in covers. If it's a socket right next to his bed, it might be worth considering replacing it with a blanking plate if you really feel the need to do something about it, assuming you can live without that socket. But the reality is that our sockets are extremely safe, it would take a lot of effort to open up the guard via the earth pin and stick something into the live terminal.

I'm aware that we have the safest plugs in the world and I'm not after using the plug in type ones, more so the box type that can be fitted over them.

@andy_mk3 Blanking it off is a no go unfortunately, it's the only socket in that room sadly.

As above. Don’t. They’re the safest sockets in the entire known universe so there’s no need.

I'd come into this thread purely to post this video. I'll miss Tom Scott uploading. Regards the topic, I would go with everyone else's advice, we have the safest sockets in the world.

If your really determined, it doesnt change the basics of the socket but adds another challenge for him to get to the socket in the first place ;)

So this is more along the lines of what I'm looking for but I'm after one that will fit to a thick back box

They slide behind the face plate so you should be able to loosen the faceplate from the backbox and then retighten once the cover has been added.
At least thats my take on how it would work with a normal back box.

Thank you. I'll get one ordered.
After everything that’s been said, you’re still wasting your money?

Even if a child were to open a shutter, their fingers are too big to get in the socket.

You'd have been better buying sockets like these, which appear to be designed with safety in mind. So safe in fact, they even have a picture of a baby playing with a wall socket.

I'm fully aware, thank you. Its the only socket in the room. It has devices plugged into it that require constant power. I'd much rather my son not have the ability to turn these off.

He is solving a different problem - he wants something plugged in but his kid not able to unplug or switch it.

Missed this

If aesthetics aren't 100% an issue just get an outdoor plug with a flap door cover.

He should get some of those boring EU sockets that don't have switches on them, less interest from kids surely.

just don't leave 2 knitting needles laying around that your kid can reach
