Socket set recommendations

Hey

So I need a socket set for when the time comes.

I only tinker with my lawnmower and other gardening tools, tyres and brake changes then once a year service on my van/car.

Anything other than the above, I pay someone to fix with having limited knowledge of cars/vans.

What would be a good set for £60-70 ? Or less if they'll do the job.

With Stihl tools it's all 1 torx. Which comes with them most of the time. The rest is little 8mm nuts or 13mm (or something like that)

Yeah that looks good. Bit over what I wanted to pay. But it does have one of them long breaker bars, or whatever there called. It's for getting off wheel nuts after the F1 team have been changing a wheel

Another good recommendation imo are Bahco socket sets. I've got both a 1/4" and 3/8" and both have been ideal for lawnmowers, bikes, occasional car jobs and various household things.

+1 for bahco. I've got a 1/4 and 1/2 set at home which has only had limited use but I bought the same sets at work (altho come with some hex screwdriver and torx bits) which have had a hard life and are still going strong. A bit more expensive than the other recommended sets.

Bahco or Wera. With either you only need to buy what you need. £25 for a 1/4” ratchet, £35 for a 3/8” ratchet or £50 for a 1/2” ratchet. The individual sockets are £3 - £12 each and you only buy the ones you need.

When you pick sockets try to get wall drive ones. Good sockets drive on the walls of the nut rather than the corners. If you get sockets that drive in the corners then you can round off nuts but the ones that drive in the walls don’t tend to have the same problem.

Why are they called that, you'd have to be pretty twisted to use them on a mole.

I've got a Halfords set and it's been pretty good. But don't even but them at full price. They're often on offer at half price.

Halfords Pro stuff on sale.

I have lots of expensive Wera stuff but the Halfords set is solid as far as socket sets go.

Mine is over 10 year old now and still as good as new.

Another vote for Halfords pro.

shame they changed the design/manufacturer and they aren't as good as they were but the lifetime guarantee more than makes up for it.

Anything you break walk into halfords and they replace it there and then.

Another vote for the Halfords socket sets with the lifetime warranty. Mine still going strong 21 years later.

I've only had to replace the short extention bar twice as the spring and ball bearing came out so it wouldn't stay attached to the socket . On both occasions, it was swapped no questions asked. They must've have a few come back as the design has now changed with no moving parts.
