Hi all!

I am in the market for a new sofa, and I have found a nice Corner Sofa from Next that I have my eye on (In before "Bit Chavvy innit?" :p)

This is the one I'm looking at:

The fabric is called "Boucle Weave Dark Grey".

Just wondered if anyone else has had a sofa from Next and could comment on the quality? They had a different sofa in the store near me that used the same fabric, but it was starting to fray a little on the edges. It's a pricey sofa, so I want it to last me a long time.

Thanks,
Marky

My mum got her two-piece from Next.

Nice sofa, however the foam isn't great quality.

That being said, the sofa you're looking at could be vastly different.

Personally, I'd be asking for the specs of the foam, and doing a bit of research around said specs.

i found next's range to be similar to M&S in price however M&S had bigger and better sofas.

as in an armchair was £X amount in next but it was rather small. M&S similar armchair but twice the size was £X plus £100.

I've got two Next sofas, both about 10 years old. They've both been excellent, really happy with them.

I'm in the market for another sofa, in addition to the two I've already got, and still really like the Next styles.

We have had a Stamford modular corner sofa for about a month now. So far I am really impressed with it.

I stress tested the fabric samples and they seemed to hold up pretty well to abuse (scrubbing, scratching, getting it wet etc).

One thing worth noting is not all the fabrics come with the stain protector as it doesn't work on some of the softer materials. If you check the back of the sample it'll clearly show if it does.

Glad to read this as we have a couple of Stamford leather sofas being delivered over the weekend.

The next sofas in the shop seem to e really good quality, but haven’t sat on one that’s a year old, really hard to know if a sofa is decent within a store.

The Stamford leather sofas have fixed coushins with foam and springs, so I’m hoping that it lasts longer compared to just foam sofas.

Had Next sofas for about 10 years now and they've really lasted well (4 different cats, 2 children). Would buy again.

Thanks a lot for your comments :) I feel a little better about getting it now I think :)

I will also check out the range they do at M&S too!

From speaking to an ex manager at M&S my understanding is M&S and Next sofas are made in the same factory.

We have a modular Garda coming next weekend, took us ages to pick but the quality seems good for the money.

Can you negotiate with them/next like smaller shops ?
from an earlier thread I thought there was also an M&S factory shop, if you are in the right region.

[Zipped covers are pretty useful , to change foam yourselves - I've revived stuff 10+ years in.]

Compared the sofas in the local next about 4 months ago and they were almost exactly the same as the low-mid end DFS sofas but cost more.

I guess this depends on personal preference a bit, but when I looked around DFS a couple of weeks ago, I struggled to find a single sofa I'd be happy to place in my house. Most looked like stuff from the 90s.

I purchased my sofas from SCS around 5 years ago for around £1400, so nothing massively expensive but expensive enough.

The quality is poor as was the after sales service. The foam sank in just over a year and they sent an engineer to insert additional foam. He went all out with half a foam pad in each sofa (a 2 and a 3 seater). He also said part of the frame had broken and attempted a fix with two small pieces of wood and some nails.

A few months later I requested another engineer. He inserted another 3 pads into each sofa and also found the broken frame was due to a knot in the wood.

I tried to take the matter further with SCS but they washed their hands of it.

That was my first and last SCS purchase.

we have a next sofa, It's creaking already after 2 years. Had someone out to try sort it, fixed it and doing it again.

The sofas are made at the same factory as M&S I am lead to believe.

Wouldn't get one again unfortunately.

We got a sofa from furniture village, very happy with it thus far 8 months in, very comfortable and not noticed any build quality issues.

some of the sofas are made at the same factory however they are made to different designs and specs.

it's a bit like supermarkets. they all buy their pies from the same pie factory. however the ingredients are different from say M&S and Asda.
