NortH ShieldS !!!!
Hay, i got a bit of a funny question. I do Karate 2 times a week and have done for about 6 years. i recently took a few months off and got out of the swing of things, i went back the other day, and after/during training i got these blood blisters :( which were quite painful, i sometimes get them not all the time though.
I was wondering if there is anything i can do to harden my feet up and reduce the risk of getting these painful blisters again??
Note: we are not allowed nor do I prefer training shoes.
Has Anyone got ANY Suggestion :) ??????
Thanks

I also suffer a lot from blisters with indoor 5-aside football, tried all footwear (astroturf, indoor, running) all with no luck. Blisters are caused by friction, the top layers of the skin rub together, which rips, filling with fluid and/or blood. Only way i have found which helps a bit is wearign 2 pairs of socks, which emulates the friction between your skin.

Tried different insoles, footwear, sock material, talcum powder (which leaked out of my trainer, made the 5-aside like an ice rink, v.funny) e.t.c

i used to rub surgical spirit on my feet to toughen the skin up when I was playing a lot of sports/doing martial arts. It encourages callouses to form.

I've also heard of this. But have also heard of some horror stories where the hardened skin splits or just comes away in huge lumps. You can still develope blisters under hardened skin - they are then next to impossible to treat.

I use either vaseline or cracked heel cream to keep my feet as soft as they can be.

As for karate - When I used to practice I just walked round in bare feet all the time which toughened up the necessary areas over time. Don't let any callouses formed become to raised or rough - keep then in check with a foot file or pumice.

If you want to spend a bit of money there's an excellent book called 'fixing your feet' by J. Vonhof.

You can get a great little second skin plaster from boots. Its mainly for blisters but I had a blood blister and it worked a treat. They are called Compeed.
