Software at OcUK ! What else would you like to see on offer?

If you are going to add games to the product list, at least add Royal Mail postage, otherwise people will not even consider OcUK over a main games etailer. :)

none, really, if it means we cant mention certain shops because they too sell games.

Agree with that.

Anything but games, if it will force is to stop mentioning Gameplay etc.

I don't think you should try expanding the range. Pretty much everything ocuk currently has in the software section is cheaper from dedicated software sellers.

Ocuk is a great hardware store, not a great software store.

If you try to do both you might end up being average in both.:(

The nVidia DVD/Purevideo decoder would be an idea. A competitor sells it & you can't buy it direct from nVidia in the UK so it's pretty hard to get hold of easily.

Seconded! Forgot to mention it in my post, I use it for my MCE Rig and it's great! You may also want to consider Thetretek & Power DVD

More 'useful' software would be nice, such as cd burning software and utility software (e.g. partitioning, disk defragmenting, etc). Don't really see the point in stocking games though as there are so many other places in the UK to obtain those.

was gonna say more OEM stuff, but you've got that covered!
I'd like to see more non MS options, but I can see how that wouldn't be a good business move (low turnover stock etc).

theres little to no money to be had in games iirc as there are a few places selling online with skin of their teath profit margins.

maybe some windows server OSs, maybe some Mac software?
I'd like more backup stuff, also maybe things like 3D Mark suites of software, ie benchmarking?

the issue with software is that most of the people here who use your site are going to buy at most windows XP and office (if that) the rest they will have already or source themselves (ahem).

when people come to me for somewhere to buy software I'd say it brakes down like this (even with new PCs this is)

Office
Windows XP
Norton AV /etc
Firewall software
Nero
Picasa (no, I told you, its free. no there isn't a paid for vertion.)

and thats about it, unless you want to go for server software etc.

diskeeper may be a good one to have available.

buy software is not suited to OcUKs client base, there are places doing 0 shipping fee and cheap software too, OcUK cannot compeate in this area as the shipping is too high.

None really, games would have to be £8 cheaper than the shops to make up for the insane postage costs on ocuk and then -£5 to make them competitive enough to make me want to buy them from here.

Hi there

OK getting there. Diskeeper now added, Ghost, Student versions of MS office etc.

Will look into another anti-virus brand along with some adobe products. :)

Might be worth selling most of the top (closed source) development software :

Adobe Photoshop CS etc
Adobe Premiere
Microsoft .NET developer

etc etc

just in small amounts, mind you, but then you'd be marketing ocuk systems also as high end development platforms.

Would it be worth showing the requirements/restrictions for academic/student editions to avoid people mis-buying?

As for suggestions I'd like to see some video/photo processing packages such as Adobe Elements.
