Software distribution over network

Hey,

Is there anyway of distributing software to computers over a network? without having to see to each machine individually.

The software is just a basic application non windows. Any suggestions would be great

The first thing I can think of is using group policy via Windows server. Or you could do them one by one via VNC or psexec, but that's fairly arduous.
