Software for backing up to ext. HDD from Server

We have a Dell server which backs up to a tape each evening. The tape is changed over each night and taken off site.
Yesterday afternoon though we had a power outage and the server had to be shut down. Is there an easy way of making a second copy of the backup on to an external USB HDD, just in case the Server dies and we need to get data quickly?
