Hi , ive been asked to upgrade a guys pc for gaming but hes not got a clue what his current hardware is , he apparently bought the thing from a catalogue (yes i know lol) anyway i thought i'd go round and have a look at his machine to figure out what he needs, i can pop the case open and visually identify most of the parts but it would be good to have some software to tell me if the mobo is pcie, agp, what type the RAM is and so fourth (2nd opinion so to speak) , so is there anything i can download and put on a fmemory stick and install when i get there ?

Sandra can do most of that.

However, I'd trust a physical inspection much more than software. RAM will have stickers on it indicating the size and speed. Google can reveal model numbers and such for less easily-identifiable bits.

Heck, you could take a photo of the mobo and post it here and answer some of those.

I would also recommend Belarc, and if you think it hasnt detected something just google the Model Number.

Belarc will also reveal software installed on the machine with any product keys.

When I make an image for a load of PCs I always make a profile and store it in our documentation folders and if the image is ever lost I have a record of what was installed on all the machines the first place.
