Software for making lecture notes?

Simple question. I'm looking to improve on gedit which is the current weapon of choice.

I would be thrilled if it could cope with basic mathematics, but failing that anything better than gedit/nano has got to be worth a try. Experimenting with having a laptop with me during lectures.

Suggestions welcome, I know there's other students here. Cheers

(ubuntu netbook remix, probably)

Cheers, I like the look of that. Will give it a go tomorrow :)

It's really difficult to write anything algebraic in a keyboard, there might not be an ideal solution to it. Perhaps something will turn up though

I think I like the look of emacs, thanks for this. I've used lyx for a couple of lab reports, so the learning curve should be slightly blunted. Reading through the intro to emacs now, I think it'll work very well once I'm used to the commands.
