Software for making lecture notes?

Simple question. I'm looking to improve on gedit which is the current weapon of choice.

I would be thrilled if it could cope with basic mathematics, but failing that anything better than gedit/nano has got to be worth a try. Experimenting with having a laptop with me during lectures.

Suggestions welcome, I know there's other students here. Cheers

I really like medit, its really quick with lots of functionality.

No mathematics though I don't think, not sure of anything in that area.

It's really difficult to write anything algebraic in a keyboard, there might not be an ideal solution to it. Perhaps something will turn up though

Lyx should help.

I've also used Ekee in the past for equations.

I still think Google Docs is great for taking notes plus it has a full equation editor as well.

That would be a good solution, but personally I would find it a nightmare writing correct latex for equations in the middle of a lecture whilst keeping up

Yeah use emacs to write latex files in lectures here too (well no recently as I'm not a student!) but it's fine.

I think I like the look of emacs, thanks for this. I've used lyx for a couple of lab reports, so the learning curve should be slightly blunted. Reading through the intro to emacs now, I think it'll work very well once I'm used to the commands.

I have used lyx for lecture notes in the past and it works a treat.
