Software for remote access and diagnostics

Hello.

I'm leaving the country for a few years to live and work elsewhere. Up until now, I have been the sole fixer of PCs and laptops for the whole family and girlfriends family.

Is there a program i can download/buy that will enable me to connect to and take control of my family's laptops and PCs if they ever get a problem? (presuming the problem isnt internet connectivity).

They'll all be using different version of windows which might cause issues, but it woul be easier than trying to help them over the phone.

I use Teamviewer for this very thing, very easy to use, never had any problems with it. It's free for personal use.

First time I used teamviewer I was amazed at how little I had to actually do to get it to work! even managed to share desktops between a windows pc and a mac

XP (SP3 I think), Vista and W7 come with Remote Assisance built in.. Easy to use and no software to load.

User just request your help by invitation via by mail or MSN. Once verified your in.

It can be found in the Start menu by typing “Windows Remote Assistance” in the search box.

It can also be a right PITA and fail to connect if UPNP is disabled in the router.

Used LogMeIn a couple of times, seems great but I'm not a fan of paying for a simple service that Windows can do if configured manually.

LogmeIn + 1.

Use it to control all my family and friends PC when they need support.

This varies from people 10 miles away to my neice who is in New Zealand.
