Hi All,

The last time I looked into this area, it was all hardware based. But things must have moved on !

I look after an IT training suite in a primary school with 20 workstations. I want a software solution, so that teachers can take control one or all the 19 PC's operated by the kiddies and show what’s on their screen.

It would also be good to take control on the users PCs when they don't understand something and take them through it.

What are the current software solution for this???? It is paramount that the software is easy to use as it will be used by very non-technical teachers and kids alike.

The software can be free or paid for. I am just looking for the simplest software that can deliver best job.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

You haven't said what OS the computers will be using.

Assuming it is Windows, you might want to take a look at LogMeIn or TeamViewer. Both are free.

We use AB tutor where we work, seems to do the job and not too expensive.

iTalc is a freeby, I've never used it. I've also heard good things about Impero.

EDIT: http://www.abconsulting.com

EDITEDIT: Pop over to edugeek.net there is a lot of information about this sort of thing.

My college uses LanSchool. Very simple and easy to use. Has a grid view, so you can see live thumbnails of the whole class. Lets you remote control, block internet, block specific websites, plus loads more both individually and for the whole class.

I've worked at a school for 10 years building their PC's and have seen software , actually demo versions for teachers to take over the pupils PC's , make their screens go black and monitor what their viewing . All screens can be viewed on a teachers monitor . This sort of software was available 6 or 7 years ago . The software may do more nowadays, but the version we were encouraged to buy wasn't cheap . We didn't buy it . I've had details of new software sent to the school last year.
I'll see if I can dig the info out .

Thanks to everyone for the rapid replies. I will start investigating. Please keep them coming .

PS - OS = Windows XP Pro

When I worked in a school I setup Netsupport school, was utterly awesome too!

You could lock all screens, turn all PCs on/off and run tests which the pupils couldn't alt/tab out of etc including video/sound clips etc that the teachers could produce. Marks were automatically produced and put into results tables for teachers depending on who was logged into each PC etc. You could also restrict which programs pupils could use during a particular session, such as "only use MS word" and block them from messing about in IE.

Also allowed staff greater control over the PCs as they can view all screens on their monitor at the same time and zoom in on each individual one at any time to view more detail, take or share control.

You can do most of that with a few other apps but it did it all itself within a nice interface. I won't say it was cheap, but it was definately worth the outlay. Eventually our HT let me get it on every PC in the school :)

IntelliAdmin, remotely connect to any PC's desktop without them knowing (unless they know how to task manage ofc) only installs a tiny agent at their end which comes off when you disconnect ... We use it to connect to over 3000 machines at work

Another vote for LanSchool.

Easy to roll out to a group of machines and great for demonstrations/keeping an eye on what the kids are doing.

Installed the 30 day trial of Lanschool, gave it a 40 whirl and I got to say, I is most impressed.

Thanks for all the heads up :)

Unfortunetly they're not overly cheap, but their software is very good.

Ultravnc will do what you want ( can use in view only mode or take control mode)

Oh and its totally free , you could create a folder on the teachers desktop
with .vnc link to each of the machines just double click to see what the kids are up to.

Netop provide a multitude of ICT Suite management software aimed at all budgets. Their software has been very good when I've had to use it. Other providers, such as RM, just rebadge Netop's software and sell it as their own.

You can view their products here.
