software to disect (sp?) MP3's

I want to cut up a couple of MP3's to create some mobile ring tones.

Are there any free bits of software out there that will do this?

Convert them to .wav files and use the wave recorder to cut them up, then convert the new files back to .mp3 ?

GoldWave will do the job nicely, I use it for stuff like this. The only restriction on the trial version is the number of commands you can perform in one session. If you want to save the results as mp3 you'll have to download LAME too, which is also on the goldwave site.

i've got audacity already....didn't think about that.

I've downloaded goldwave too.
