Software to play dvds stored on pc

Hi guys got a bit of a problem, basically my cd player sounds like a helicopter when playing dvds, so at night its a bit of a pain..

I wanted to watch the planet earth box set i finally brought yesturday so i thought sod it ill copy the disc to my hard drive and play it from there..

When i go into the video folder and launch the file it plays but theres no imagery or it will play one frame will come up and thats it the sound continues to play.

I've tried VLC media center and media player all have issues. help :confused:

How did you copy it? What is the file extension? .vob?

My computer > dvd drive> explore> copy>made a new folder on desktop> paste
do i need some kinda ripper ?? if so whats best for this as its really annoying at night i turn all my system fans down the cpu fan my gpu fan etc ect pc silent i then click play

it sounds like a Chinook his coming into land.

noy 100% on file type im not at home the dvd is an original though if that helps more info i can give when i get home tonight as im going to see how i can get this to work without using the dvd bay late at night.

how did you copy it to your HDD? if the PC can play DVDs normally then I can't see why it won't play from the copy on your HDD. just open the .ifo file with your normal media player.

Sounds like he just copy and pasted it. Pretty sure the encryption key is on the disc and wouldn't be copied across.

aah that would probably be it. just assumed he had used a ripper.

You aren't able to just copy the files from dvd's these days using windows explorer as far as I know, you need some kind of rip software... A quick google search should tell you quite a bit about your options though!
