I’m looking to get a solar panel and battery system fitted in my house and remove the reliance on gas for the central heating.

Has anyone got any recommendations of installers etc in the north west?

I would have a rethink about what a system would mean, and what you want your solar setup to do. In the winter when you want heat, the chances are solar won't be generating enough to heat your house. This will mean you are importing energy from the grid, which is very much more expensive than gas. Even with a battery, and charging it off peak on a cheap rate, I doubt it would cover heating for the day. Best to stick with Gas as well for heating in the winter imo but you will have to do the sums for your own household...

I was assuming a electric based heat pump would be suitable for winter heating with low elec costs with good number of panels.

Off peak wouldn’t be too bad.

When you're generating 2kwh a day it's unlikely. although coldest temps come from high pressure clear days, but obviously sun intensity is much lower.
