Solar Panels

The g/f and I are looking to buy next spring (we already have the money sorted however we're going to rent a place together for six months to see if we can live together).

I'm planning on installing some beefy solar panels on the roof from the outset, but I know nothing about these. I have heard you can get enough energy from them to put some back into the grid and even get some money back.

Has anyone installed these panels on their roof, and if so what kind, where from, how much, what are they like to maintain and how much energy do they produce?

from what i have read u need to be using the panels for 10 years before u break even on the money u spent, which is what puts me off atm as im not planning on living in the same house for 10 years +

youre meaning photovoltaics rather than solar panels. Depending on what size of system you want they can start off around 1500 (crappy system with low output) and go up to 10's of thousands but depending on how strong your roof is and how deep your pockets are will ultimately decide how big you want it to be.
