Sold my Soul! and started WoW

We have 2 Boomkins on our raid roster, with at least 1 of them on every raid. We're working on Kael at the moment. They certainly churn out good DPS. Feral DPS however? No thanks. :)

i've been playing my Druid since Day 1 of wow, after playing one in Final Beta.

still enjoy the druid class and still have not levelled any other chars to 70 !

have always been feral and would highly recommend it for levelling.

with BC new items and changes to talents etc feral now seems viable for tanking and dps compared to pre BC.

the amount of times i'm asked to tank and join guilds to tank / OT is great. pre-BC it always used to be you a druid you come heal us.....

although i dont raid now due to RL commitments i did my share of raiding in a big raiding guild through MC / BWL / AQ40. all the time i was still feral specced as its my choice of spec for playing the game.

i dislike pvp so a pve server suits me and i'm happy on one. if you dont like the server choice you are on i guess you can move server at a later time when u hit 70 ?

professions : currently i find that mainly the gathering professions are the ones where you make the money. my LW seems to be rather worthless - although not raiding i do not get high level patterns.

herby is a moneymaker and easy to do. skinning to seems good with high prices for leather on the AH. am told people make a lot of money from mining as well.....

although whether this is only the case when you reach the high levels i'm not sure.....

enjoy your druid. its an amazing class with a lot of variety.

The OP comes from LOTRO, where levelling is all PvE - you can trundle around enjoying the quests, the company and the scenery. You can do the same on WoW PvE, without being subjected to some leet kiddy's s3 Rogue camping your quest area until you're forced to leave. A PvE server will suit him fine I'm sure. Tales of them being underpopulated are also greatly exaggerated. I'll concede that PvP servers generally seem to have more raiding guilds but it's not like there's a shortage on most PvE realms, unless you happen to pick a 'recommended' (i.e. low population) one. I'm in a 5/5 Mount Hyjal 3/9 BT guild and we're 5th or 6th in progress on my PvE server. There're lots of other guilds snapping at our heels. I played PvP servers for 2 years since release but don't touch them now. I've transferred 2 characters to PvE and don't regret it for a second.

As for the druid, I think it will be a fine choice for a first class. Feral is probably the way to level (definitely not resto). Get a couple of gathering professions - gold can be tight for a while as a newcomer but you can always flog stuff like leather and copper bars for a few silvers. At higher levels mining can be a real money spinner. An alternative would be herbalism/alchemy - that way you get a gathering profession and also can make potions which will give you a (minor) help while levelling.

Druid dps does not suck. That is untrue indeed. This is why so many people have got so fed up of no one wanting them in arena teams etc that they respec resto. There are way to many resto druids about atm as this is the best PvP healing class. Feral is excellent for Battlegrounds but requires huge amounts of skill and timing to play well in arena situations.
Feral is indeed awesome for arena.

I play in a 2v2 with another guy who has both a Feral Druid and a Rogue. The cat may not have 27 different means of crowd control, but cyclone and innervate is so useful, and add in the impressive dps of a properly geared out drood, either combination is awesome.

I'm cookie-cutter-HI-I'M-A-DISC-PRIEST-SO-YOU-CANT-KILL-ME btw.

That's the most ridiculous thing i've ever read! What on earth makes you think that not being able to kill someone in the grinding world makes bad raid guilds, bad economies and a complete lack of raid guilds?

Honestly this argument is so pointless because i've never seen it crop up without PVP Fanboi's coming along with ridiculous unfounded statements like the one above. The are 4 guilds on my PVE server who have run out of things to Raid. And that's just on Horde. There are a further bunch of guilds in SSC and TK/BT Progression. Hyjal is a joke.
Indeed, in my experience of a top level character on both types (60 pre TBC on PvP), PvE is better, purely because you can farm your mats for raiding without getting ganked.

hi all really greatful for all the adivse flying in.

as far as pvp vs pve is concerened, im not bothered to be honest i joined wow to play with a friend who has played wow for a couple of years but really wanted me to give it a try with her after she spend 6 months playing lotro with me. so basically i joined the server all her chars and guild are on, it just happens that its a pve one.

regarding professions i chose to do herbalism and alchamy (well my friend suggested em to be honest )

also i accidently used my first and only (to date) talent skill last night (i clicked on a box by accident) think i managed to choose ensnareing roots or some such. gives the caster 35% chance of a target that attacks them being rooted must remember to be more careful with future talent points :)

Another vote for pve servers here, I've played WoW on and off since closed beta and until recently I've spent the bulk of my time on pvp servers.

I agree that world pvp can be fun but from my experience what it often comes down to is someone attacks you, you kill them, they bring their level 70 main to camp you for an hour, you log on your main to come and kill them and before you know it you've wasted your gaming session. Fun? To a degree. As much fun as questing? Not for me these days. :)

I guess it all depends what you want from the game, some people love ganking, others want to quest and pvp as and when they choose in battlegrounds.

Blizzard actually want you to have the fun of learning when it comes to talent trees, so don't be too worried about what you pick. The trees are designed so that you have 'signature' talents after 11, 21, 31 and 41 points invested (i.e. you can get them at level 20, 30, 40 etc). You might like to look ahead a little way and plan out your route to get your first 11 pointer and work it from there.

Don't be too quick to respec. In LOTRO it costs practically nothing to change traits. In WoW it gets progressively more punitive the more often you do it. The first respec is 1 gold, the next one 5g, then 10g rising in increments of 5g until you cap out at 50g per respec. Check out the Druid part of the WoW forums (I can't see them at work either) when you are able to and there's sure to be a levelling guide there, telling you recommended places to put points. Also, don't be put off by people poo-pooing 'cookie cutter' specs - they are cookie cutter because they tend to do the job very well but don't feel obliged to copy them exactly.

Great gear Makunouchi but players that started at the release of TBC have gear like that also.

Although I noticed your PvP kills and that is definatly pre TBC judging the number of kills.

Don't want to get into a willy waving competition, but I've been playing wow since phase 2 beta, i had a dwarf mage at level 40.

Well servers mean so little these days what with paid transfers, but yeah Draenor was my first server on release day, although i played from towards the end of the final beta. Its actually part of that group of older servers that still has rubbish hardware and therefore all the lag and server down problems always hit us first.

Ahh, old school server.

What's the server like overall?

Currently on Burning steppes server. Not that good.

yeah lol i started from day 1 on draenor.

we always seemed to have the most problems ! i migrated to a new server around the time BC was released.
