Stupid question, but I sold a phone case on Ebay and turns out the buyer is about a 5min walk away. I put £2.99 for 1st class signed for post, but can I just hand deliver it? My trust in Ebay/buyers is pretty much zero so I don't want to leave myself open to claims of it "wasn't delivered" etc. At the same time I can save a couple quid and he is actually closer than the Post Office.

Take multiple pics of his front door with the parcel sticking out? lol..

It was £18.01 + £2.99 1st class signed delivery. So I think asking him if he's ok with £20 cash and I'll cancel the sale on Ebay works best right? Saves him £1 and saves me err.. whatever the fees were going to be? If I do the QR code thing I'll still have to pay some fees right.

If I cancel will I have to pay Ebay any fees? It's not clear.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/getting-paid/canceling-transaction?id=4136

I don't think he's a scammer, he lives in a very nice road with big houses and his username is hisname1969 so he's 50-odd :p

I think Ebay scan the messages for certain text, so be careful if you try to cancel the sale through there (know from experience :p).

If someone hand delivered it to me I wouldn't be fussed about the postage costs.. you're paying for it to be delivered.. doesn't matter who delivers it?
Ooh sneaky! Good point re the costs. He's agreed the full price inc postage so hand delivery at an agreed time is way better than whatever Royal Mail can do! But if I do it via Ebay I lose £2.99 in fees (I just checked).
Yep, they've had this for a couple years at least and it's a great feature. I've used it a few times in the past and just scan the code when you deliver it so there's no come back.
Where does one find that option? As above though if I do this I'd lose the £2.99 in Ebay fees.

Why does it matter if its the postman or you.
Because I'd have no proof it was delivered unless I pretended to be the postman and got him to sign for it.

I just messaged him to take it offline, lets see if Ebay bust me. Worth it to save £3 fees!

Well my message got through the eBay bots and he’s fine for me to drop it off tomorrow, but the cheeky beggar has said “is the £18 correct for you?” Err no!? I’ve confused myself here..

He’s already paid me £18+2.99 postage. I’m saving him 2.99 by dropping it round, and saving myself 2.99 (I think, does that sound right?) on fees. But if I only get 18 for it I may as well have posted it lol

I honestly don’t know how people do so much eBay, it drives me nuts :D

You're still better off with £18 cash.

Ebay take 12% including postage cost. You've sold for £21 including postage so Ebay take ~£2.50 and you'd have to pay ~£3 postage. End of the day you'd get £15.50 selling though Ebay.
Or I could have not told him and chucked it through the letterbox? I would have received the full £21 that he's already paid, minus £2.99 fees? So basically because I was honest I failed to make a couple extra quid? Typical!
(snip) It wouldn't be fair at all to expect the buyer to pay the extra amount.
Except he's getting it hand delivered as opposed to lost in the postal system? :p

I survived guys, it was all not very exciting :( No comeback from Ebay after cancelling the sale... so far..

OP has spent hours working on this, commenting about it, thinking about it, fussing over it, advertising it, stressing over it... was all that time really worth only £3 or £20?

If so, OP desperately needs to re-prioritise.
Hello post number 12? lol... Welcome to GD. Glad you've already got your Gucci belt on, clearly.
