Solicitors..... slow?

Solicitors love delaying things, they think it makes them seem more busy than they are so that they can justify the crazy fees involved

Not for conveyancing. This is a fixed fee job, so the idea is high turnover.

If it's a chargeable hour, per unit, then there is more of an incentive to drag it out longer = more money. Not in a fixed fee job. If they do it in 1 day or 1 year, they get paid the same.

Mines per hour.
Started at 1.75k, Then due to buyers slow as fudge solicitor and the amount of chasing my guy has had to do, its likely to be 2.5k when all is done.

Mine had contracts drawn up within 2 days.
If the buyers had responded and done their job, it would have been finished from start to finished within 7-10 days.

Now its 2 months later, and still not done. I'd normally not care, however due to recently health problems, I need the funds asap to pay for things like MRI scans and the such.
Fun times.

If it was a simple sale, and it is just taking a ridiculous time, then maybe saying you will make a complaint to the relevant ombudsman will help.
Couldnt have been more simple.
I had a buyer, Buyer was ready. Just needed to sign.

It's the slow as sod solicitor he used that has caused the massive delays.

Id say normal is the wrong word to use. Is it common, yes, should it happen, no.

I work for a solicitor that deals with this sort of stuff but in the IT department so I see and know the inner workings. They also do probate and other bits and bobs regarding money moving between parties.

Usually, we are waiting for the other side for most things. I have bought one house, and currently my next house, and also went through a divorce using my company. Every time, we were usually waiting on the other sides solicitors to be doing something.

Currently waiting on the buyer of my house, and seller of the house I bought to get in contact with my solicitor, who is also a friend of mine, so she is keeping me updated constantly!!

I thought you were around the 2 months wait mark, but it looks like it's just been a week. This would be normal I would say, and it's no big deal to the buyer's solicitor and they've gone on holiday. Unfortunately, if you really needed the money quickly, you should probably have got this into the contract somehow, or made it very clear to the buyer, as now you will have to wait for "solicitor time".

No, I am at the 2 month point.
The Buyer paid all monies to his Solicitor last Friday. (Fee's and land monies).
Mine went on holiday Monday, and even so, his secretary informs me that the buyers solicitor hasn't actually contacted them.
What's more, is that they didn't even respond to mine, about the draft contract being suitable. They just used the draft and had my buyer sign and pay based off it.
It's all pretty funny really. Serious lack of communication in that profession eh.

Mine has come back to work.
Only find find that the buyers side has NEVER responded once they were given the draft contract.
Oh.. and he's now on 2 weeks leave, back next Monday.

Incompetence at its best.
