Yes, it's another holiday thread.

I'd like to go away at the end of this summer. Not sure for how long, maybe a fortnight, it depends how much time I can get off work.

So far I've saved up a couple of grand so I should have around £4/£5k by the summer.

I plan to travel alone. I'm open to any suggestions right now; beach holiday, city break, cultural, adventure, etc...

Any suggestions?

When you say travel alone - do you mean you're prefer to travel around alone, independantly, or just that you're departing alone. What I mean is - would you be averse to the kind of trips organised by companies like Explore, etc where you travel around as part of a group.

What kind of holidays do you like? Holidays are quite a personal thing, so just saying "any suggestions" is possibly a bit vague. Do you have any details of
trips in the past you've enjoyed, or things you'd rather not do?

What do you like? Culture, natural beauty, adrenaline, boobs?

I wouldn't go anywhere alone if I were as incapable as you of even deciding what sort of holiday to go on. Doesn't bode well.

lol what a ridiculous comment

@op

Thailand is a popular choice, there's lots to do and you can also visit the neighbouring countries

or how about a tour of Australia?

This. But I don't mind meeting new people when I'm on holiday.

In the past I've usually just gone to Amsterdam to get wrecked for a week. At the time I enjoyed them but I don't drink or take drugs anymore so I'd need to go somewhere where there is more to do than drink all day.

All of the above, really :D

I'm open to any suggestions.

Thailand sounds interesting. Definitely going in the maybe pile. Thanks.

I planning on traveling a lone this summer (best way to do it imo). I'm torn between a trip through Syria, Jordan and Isreal or Libya. Granted the only reason i want to go to Libya is to dive though

Thailand is good, but two weeks simply isn't long enough to visit the neighbouring countries, at least if you want to experience them properly. It'd be far better just to spend the time in one, two, or three places in a country and get to know it properly.

I'm a great advocate of travelling slowly rather than rushing around desperately trying to see and experience everything :)

New Zealand and Australia are both definately worth a visit, but it's a hell of a long way to go for 2 weeks. The flight takes a day itself (so thats 2 days gone just getting there and back!). Also, whilst Australia is an amazing place, it's also ****ing huge - you'd spend half you time just moving from one place to another, save it for when you can get longer off work.

Have you considered Cuba for a different cultural Vibe? Or what about Russia? Japan? (even better if you are tall and can tower over the locals)

For Archeology (if you like that kind of thing), Central America (Machu Pichu in Peru, the Incas in Belize, Honduras and Guatamala. Cambodia too (Angkor Wat looks amazing). Probably best give Egypt a miss for now....

For natural beauty, how about Madagascar or Mauritious. South Africa (safari?).

For Boobs? Well, there's always the internet.

Whilst I understand the alure of the independant traveller, I'd seriously reconsider using one of the "adventure" holiday companies. Especially for the relevatively short period you think you can get off work - if you try the whole "Hmmm, where shall I go today" freespirit thing, 2 weeks will be gone before you know it. With a knowledgeable guide, you see so much more - it more than makes up for the loss in freedom (imho). At least give them a look and see what you think (Explore and Exodus are the 2 I know, I'm sure there are plenty of others)

I've got the travel bug now! It's been years since we've had a proper holiday without it being with one of our families. I've done a crap load of over time these last few months and I've been wondering what to spend it on...

Why not go to singapore and Australia. (just saw a singapore airlines ad and got the idea!) Might work out cheaper than two visits. Instead of trying to see the whole country, just target specific spots and you can get it done in two weeks easy

A sex tour of nigeria. I'm sure once you're back you'll always have something to remind you of your escapades ;)

thailand

try to stretch more than two weeks if you can, but if not spend it on koh phangan and koh tao

and you wont need anywhere near £ 4/5 k

You can't do that in 2 weeks. Huge wasted opportunity if you even attempt it.

I wouldnt go to egypt! ;p sorry

Tailand would be a good choice but so is Austalia/New Zeeland you can meet a lot of other people traveling alone aswel :)
