Yesterday I went to Watford Waterfield retail park with the other half to buy a load of things for our coming holiday. I accidently parked in a bay that happened to be a parent bay. I genuinely didnt realise before anyone starts I even checked when I got out of the car but my car was over the symbol so I didnt see it.

Anyway, when I got back I found a ticket on my windscreen. After reading it, I saw the reason was for parking in a parent bay, with no visible evidence of children.

So ok, I parked in the wrong area but there was not any visible signs that it was a parent parking bay apart from the icon that was under my car. There was no warning that parking in those bays are a £30 fineable offence and even if it was, how is no visible evidence of children admissable evidence. Hell I sometimes drive with my 5 year old niece in the back of my car so there isnt any evidence anyway.

So yes I was in the wrong but I cant see how they can get away with fining people without fair signing and warning. To me this is just thieving BS.

Well I went out earlier and picked up the ticket from the car when I got back. On the ticket it had two boxes ticked, one said parking in a disabled spot which I didnt initially see and the other was hand written and said, no visible evidence of children.

Rather confused as to what I was getting fined for I drove to Watford to see and when I got there I realised I was a complete and utter muppet. I unknowingly parked in a disabled spot so deserved the ticket, so will be paying the fine. I would like to say I wouldnt have parked there had I had known it was a disabled spot and neither me or the other half saw that it was. :o :(

How come they mentioned no evidence of children. Most odd

Agreed, that is a strage one

As far as I know, there are no laws WRT parent and child bays, they are just something thought up by the supermarkets.

Yes they are handy when we are out with the kids, but there is no legal requirement like with Disabled bays.

You're giving money to opportunistic extortionists IMO, but pay the fine if you think it will ease the pain of parking in a disabled space and erase the black mark from your soul.

Have a look here first - http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?hl=en&q=euro car parks&sa=N&tab=wg

And be aware that if you go to Euro Car Parks homepage, to the fine paying section, and enter any 7 digit number, then they will still treat it as a valid fine and will happily take your credit card details, and your money.

I also apologise for earlier, it was partially my fault your thread was closed and I'll keep my opinions to myself this time.

that previous thread was a good one. Shame it got closed. Oh well. now it's all sorted.

Tough luck on th OP. Either get some kids or park in the right place. Job done!

I was there yesterday too with my wife and 20month old son and surprisingly managed to find a parent/child space right outside the shops. It was very busy, probably because of people rushing in for the Next sale which barely covered 1/4 of their display if that.

I dont remember seeing any signage for fines regarding disabled and parent/child spots there tbh.

I really can't stand people parking in disabled/child places who aren't disabled or dont have children with them. I wish they'd implement fines/clamping in supermarkets because you find the worst culprits there. All the disabled spots right outside the entrance of Asda are taken by 4x4's, drug dealer flashy beemers, builders transit vans, etc.

I'm sorry to hear about your mistake though as you didnt do it intentionally.

I really wish the supermarkets didn't cram the spaces soo tightly together, that way there would be no risk of your pride and joy being damaged by inconsiderate morons, and they wouldnt need parent and child spaces either.

I can see why people park in them if they want to look after their car - I tend to park as far away as I can from the supermarket, in an area where there are no other cars but bizarrely 50% of the time I come back out and find my car surrounded by other cars

Must be by people like me doing the same, i park as far away as possible, away from walkways and the such.

Sainsburys have got the right idea with some of their car parks, the spaces are slanted, meaning you can open your door pretty much fully without hitting another car.
