Somali Pirates

I'm glad for them and their families, I bet that was an ordeal and a half. Incoming book deal/film/tv mini series.

Yep I bet they will cash in on their ordeal as well.

The pirates seem to be in for a quick buck, if they didn't do this I'm sure that they would make more money through the increased tourism and visits with a proper job. This is if the ransom wasn't paid but that is in a perfect world.

Couldn't care less, tbh.

You choose to sail thru the most pirate infested waters on the planet; you take what comes with it.

Another example of those who think they're above it all.

So you walk through a dodgy neighbourhood and get mugged, and you would not ring the police? It was your fault after all . . . .

Were they released by the pirates alone or was it as the result of a SEALs .223 as it was a while back ?

Either way. Good news.
Reads as if they paid the ransom:-

The family believes it would be irresponsible to discuss any aspect of the release process as this could encourage others to capture private individuals and demand large ransom payments, something that we are sure none of us wants

The article mentions that it was rumoured to be circa $1m.

Buy a man a fish, he can eat for a day. Buy a man a fishing rod, he can feed himself, buy a man a boat and he can screw the fishing and go Pirating. Oh Arr!!

Is good news, I thought they were doomed.

They were released is a big clue, if there was military, then they would be crowing about it.

IIRC they were captured over a thousand miles from Somalia in an area previously considered safe. We just going to cede half of the ocean to these savages now ?

While we are on the subject when are going to start executing these parasites and stop just sending them back to the coast ?

Good post there old chap. Excellent way of proving yourself both stupid and ignorant.

Blimey, what a warm hearted person you are :) I take it you are unaware of the geographical distances between the Somali coast and the Seychelles?

There was no military involvement btw

I've been following this story quite closely since it broke all those months ago.

I dont know if Im just being sinical but something about it all just doesnt seem right to me, cant put my finger on it but Im suspicious.

Really? I can explain stuff but might have to take off-forum, but basically all is as it seems.

I think this has been a success for everyone on our side. The two captives get away, the British Government shows again that it won't pay a ransom, and the pirates have gone through so much hassle to get the relatively small sum of ~$1 million that they probably won't go to the hassle of kidnapping non commercial sailors again.
