Some advice for a hot processor

Hi All,

I have a Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz with a BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro CPU Cooler on a Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 mobo.

I am trying to overclock the chip to 4.6ghz but it seems I have to run a lot of volts through it just to get it stable (more or less). I had it at 1.385 and it was still BSOD'ing and was hitting 61 degrees.

I have now put it to 4.5 and changed the voltage to 1.375 to keep the heat down.

I have never done overclocking before so am not really sure what to do. Can anyone provide some pointers?

I take it you have read the overclocking guide that is sticky at the top of this section?

Not all CPU's will overclock the same that is a sad fact of life. I would suggest that your cooler mounting might be the problem. I run one of my systems using a ProMeg air cooler at 4.6Ghz and the temps are 28 - 45 'c between idle and load. All my voltages were on auto by the way. So it seems you might have a bad mount. Try to reseat the cooler do not use too much TM paste. That is often a cause for bad temps.

Good luck

My apologies, I didn't read the post. Will do so now.

TBH, I think I did use to much paste on this go. I put quite a big pea size in the middle of the processor and popped it on.
