Hi,

Ive just aquired a second raptor and going to do a reformat on my machine, now I really want the best performance possible, I have 4 drives as shown below, the only stipulate I have is that the 500gb carries on holding my MP3's

1x WD RaptorX 150gb (brand new & unused)
1x WD RaptorX 150gb (currently holding WinXP)
1x 120gb Seagate Barracuda (currently holding Vista)
1x 500gb Seagate Barracuda (currently 80% full of mp3's)

What would you recommend in terms of setup for ultimate performance? Maybe something like ...

2x 150gb Raptor X in RAID 0 holding operating system + ???
1x 120gb Barracuda ???
1x 500gb Barracuda holding MP3 files

???

Any other ideas? would games be faster off the raptor raid setup? and keep more generic applications on the 120gb such as office? My current spec can be seen in my signature.

Help

Have the matching harddrives in RAID 0 , it will improve performance a little.

Then just use the other drives as backup/storage drives.

I think youd probably benefit from having the operating system on the RAID setup too, that way youd get windows starting up pretty much as fast as is possible.

Hi,

Thats along the lines of what I was thinking, putting the two Raptor drives in a 32kb RAID 0 Stripe, using the 120gb purely for data storage and some 'non essential' applications eg office and finally keeping my 500gb drive as a standard MP3 drive like it currently is.

Any comments on this suggestion?

Mike
