Well below is my current spec:-

Q9300,Corsair Dominator DDR 1066Mhz, But im thinking of changing it all over to an i7 set up but would i notice any difference or would i only gain in benchmarking programs?

I7 stuff i was looking at was Asus P6T,i7 920 0 Stepping,6GB Giel 1333Mhz DDR3

Advice Appreciated.

as above, if all you do is send emails and type word documents then you don't need to upgrade.

Also in your sig it says you don't use your pc? In which case there wouldn't be much point upgrading

I'd say you sell the stuff you don't use, make a fair amount of cash. If you're a collector however, then obviously you don't sell, but don't buy a high end computer if you hardly use it.

I have a feeling that you are not using your pc enough to justify why you want to spend so much on an upgrade.

I suggest you upgrade on to the AMD Phenom platform. You won't notice the different between the i7 920 and the top end Phenom II x4 955. Only when you really go all out on comparisons and benchmarking will you see the difference. AMD would be more £/performance and cheaper way for you to take advantage of high end gaming.

If you buy an i7, you will have to spend more on motherboard and rams resulting in an overall more expensive upgrade. Why not have a look at the AMD cpu, AM3 motherboards and dual channel DDR3 rams? You will benefit more from it I imo.

as per PakJai can't say that you will see enough improvement to justify the upgrade.

whats the rest of the setup ?, maybe a gfx card upgrade ?

Cheers for the tips ive not looked at AMD since C2D as i always thought they were still behind, My GPU is ATi 4870 512MB got it when it first launched its a cracking card =)

AMD and ATi are closely linked.

If you have the ATi 4870 512MB, then it will only make sense to upgrade on to AMD rather than intel.

You can enjoy the luxury of crossfiring your GPU as AM3 motherboards will allow you to do so. Having said that, if you are using a monitor that is <22" and gaming on low resolutions, then you won't even have to worry about that :)

AMD Phenom II x4 is better than the intel Quad cores, it's inbetween that and the i7 920.
However, if you have the cash and want the luxury of being on top, then no doubt go get on to the i7 bandwagon :)
