Hello all,

I run out of space, and now it is the time to invest in mass storage.

I was thinking about raid 1 (mirror), however, is it really worth it?

From your experience, do you think failure chances are high enough to mirror?

Finally, do you think I should buy something like the synology 207 box and fill it up with 2x500GB disks? or buy a premade like the seagate freeagents or WD mybooks?

Thanks for your time.

RAID1 is fine but remember it's not a backup, all it gives you is hardware redundancy which lets you continue running if a drive fails. Unless you can't afford the time to recover from your backups then I wouldn't bother with RAID1 and just stick with a single drive solution.
