I am looking to get the next Elder Scrolls game (Skyrim) on the PC instead of 360 this time round but haven't built a PC since Half Life 2 days....I am in dire need of some help.

Money may be an issue so I'd prefer to keep costs down as much as possible, and I understand that the requirements aren't announced for Skyrim yet but thought I may be able to get a ballpark figure. Could someone help me spec a pc for it? It would be from the ground up, I'll need every part including case, psu etc.. Thanks guys :)

Hi there, Welcome to the OCUK forums :)

You mention you want to get a PC for the new TES game, do you want to build the PC just in time for the game (it comes out in November) or just get a good gaming PC right now that will allow you to play PC games immediately and can also handle skyrim when it comes out?

If you decide you need it in November, then it would probably best to post a similar question in late October as PC components and prices change so much that any spec given now would be very much out-of-date in five months time.

Well thats everything to build a PC, and its not crap but not blisteringly fast either, but if Skyrim is anything like Elder Scrolls then it will be more than enough.

Ok thanks very much for your fast replies! I may get one now, it depends what kind of £££ i can get my hands on, but maybe it would be better to wait as you say. I will have to see :)

So if i wanted something that was really quick i'd be looking at around £1k+ then :P thanks very much for your help! :)

For example,

£30 left over to maybe add a aftermarket heatsink or a bigger PSU, or even buy the game with.

But get it re-specced closer too time as prices vary to much.

Thats amazing...I must have it! haha.

Is ATI the way to go these days GPU wise then? I remember my old X800 (yes it was that long ago!!) wasn't amazing due to driver issues?

They have improved since then, but i am a Nvidia man myself so would put a GTX480 in it:D

Is there honestly much difference in it? I can see spec-wise ATI looks better on paper, but obviously that means nothing...

I think it will come down to pricing at the end of the day :P

Ah, well if you feel you will use it now then I would buy it ASAP. Prices do go down a bit with time, and new kit does come out - but tbh in the next five months nothing massive will be appearing that makes all the current kit obsolete.

As stulid has pointed out, an excellent performing full system (quad core, HD 5850 graphics, 22in 1080p monitor) can be built today with only £632. You could spend £1k+ but it isn't necessary to play modern games well - spending the extra will just allow you to turn the details up a bit, keep up with modern games for longer and afford you a bigger, better quality monitor.

Here is a full spec using an £1100 budget:

This spec uses a very overclockable Intel Quad core sandy Bridge i5 CPU, a heavily overclocked GTX 480 graphics card and a 24in 1080p monitor.

awesome, I'm loving that £1.1k build there haha. Nice monitor too :)

I think i'll stick an Nvidia in it then as I prefer them in my past experience, back in the XFX Nvidia days, 6800LE hahaha :)
