some advise needed

hi people,
new to this so here goes..

im just looking in to just squeezing alittle more out of system. its 3-4 years old now.

i have an asus maximus extreme mobo, just wondering weather i can run 3 graphics cards on this board. there is a spare slot i just not sure weather it will support.

secondly if it does except 3 cards, can i do the following?
im running 2 ati 3870's in crossfire. im wondering if a ati 3870x2 and 2 of ati 3870 would crossfire.

this would be three graphics cards but quad gpu....

any ideas..

It says you can run 3 cards @ 16x/8x/8x.

I don't know about mixing 3870s with 3870x2s, although I know uou can mix 6970s with 6990s.

Sounds like a crossfire nightmare though and I'm not sure how cpu bottlenecked you will be and if your psu is good enough.

power supply is a thermaltake 750 toughpower.
its power usage on seti running 100% cpu is 312 watts but that wont account for full gpu usage..as no graphics to push it.
