Some benchmarks going from Gigabyte Vision RTX 3080 to Asrock RX9070XT Steel Legend

Not worth it for me spending 60% more than my 400 odd quid 7800XT for 60% more performance- I draw a line there.

Is that 60% more ?

Haha. Yes! I agree Timespy doesn’t translate to actual performance uplifts- maybe I stated a (non-intentional) misleading statement.

Maybe the purported 60% more performance probably translates to far less.

Keeping my 7800XT #Winning

Even at MSRP I don't think the uplift is big enough, next game I plan to play is Last of Us Part 2 Remastered April release let's see how that goes

Yes I’m looking forward to TLOU part 2 as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the last one!

I completed Indy Jones and it ran fine at Supreme settings (path tracing off) at 80-100fps at 1440p.

If games are similar graphic demand like above then my card should be fine till UDNA.

Edit: i clicked on the 9070 not the 9070 XT which for thee Nitro+ is £720 and out of stock, that tells a very different story but.... yeah. I think when all this cools down and the demand drops off i think all this will be more relevant. I'm pretty sure then the 970 XT Nitro+ is on sale its more like £670.
--------------

HUB used the lower power reference one, 304 watts, which is completely fair..... higher end ones are about 330 watts and about 7% faster, they overclock quite well, TPU got an extra 10% out theirs in TimeSpy, puts it 5% past the RTX 5080, gets closer to the 4090 than the 7900 XTX got at 86% of its performance, not bad for a $650 GPU just one gen newer.

I like these GPU's, for the money they are excellent, FSR 4 is equal to DLSS 3 and RT is too. 5070 Ti is 12% ahead in Cyberpunk but also 27% more expensive in its cheapest guise vs the Nitro+, the 9070 XT is a 5070 competitor at its price and blows it out of the water!

Look at this ****

I never really took much interest in Synthetic Benchmarks over actual gaming benchmarks

In stock form in timespy the 9070xt is ahead of 7900xtx , 4080 super , 4080 and close to 5080 but that doesn't translate over in actual games

It does against the XTX. I made the swap from a Red Devil 7900 XTX and so far it has beaten it in every game I've played.
MH Wilds, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Forbidden West, Indiana Jones, Forza Motorsport, Cyberpunk
I'm well impressed with it! My 7900 XTX was heavily OC'd too.
I get a lot higher scores than the OP, so think he's CPU bottlenecked.
For example I get 7850, 78.5 fps in Steel Nomad and over 33k GPU score in Timespy.
At 4K, Default settings with no frame gen I get 85fps in MH Wilds, 79fps with RT.

Yes for heavy RT, but for pure rasterization no you ain't noticing the difference imo

I think that’s the point really. If you want RT improvements and FSR then you can start to see value in moving for a 7000 series. But if you are playing raster games (without upscaling) the difference is only noticeable with an FPS overlay.

Yeah for myself I wouldn't be impressed with that jump , look at the example below yes it's faster but it's also not playable , he also gave examples with games with no RT so there isn't really any difference

Not remotely accurate numbers because HUB have a habit of picking settings that suit their narrative rather than what people actually use.

It’s also why they claim the 9070XT is 21% slower in RT. They pick settings that suit their narrative. I mean quite frankly none of those numbers are playable because the 1% lows are diabolical and below most monitors VRR floor.

My own testing is that with FSR4 balanced you get far more playable FPS than with any 7000 series.

Did you upgrade from 7900xtx to 9070xt as well?

The only impressive part is when you can use fsr4 also helping push more on RT

But then again I don't upgrade every generation and want bigger uplift when I do

Why are we even arguing? ;)

I already agreed with you that the 9070 XT only starts to show value if you want FSR 4 and better RT.

Yes I got a 9070 XT Pulse to upgrade my son’s 7900 XT. It gives very similar raster unless you enable the FPS overlay.

But RT max in games like CP2077 and Star Wars Outlaws show a big improvement. CP2077 full RT with Path Tracing at 1440p FSR 4 gives.

Quality = 40 - 50 FPS
Balanced = 50 - 60 FPS (stays above my VRR floor)
Performance 60 - 80 FPS

With FSR4 using OptiScaler performance mode looks so much clearer and with none of the old FSR 3 issues.

This is why benchmarks like HUB using quality upscaling mean nothing.

The 7900 XT cannot run the game with Path Tracing and can only use older FSR 2 or 3 and as such using performance FSR kills the IQ.
