Some clarification on the 15" MBP SATA saga?

Just had a long conversation with some guys on the phone at Apple... Not sure if this is new news, but not seen it posted anywhere:

  • The lowest spec machine has 1 .5GHz SATA interface. This is to do with the fact that the whole system board is actually a 'downgrade' from the late 8 15" entry level MBP (i.e. no 3d graphics card). I didn't ask, but what happens if I buy a SSD option with my MBP?
  • The 2.66 and above have a 3Gbps interface irrespective of the HD chosen. This means for the price difference between the old entry level MBP and the new medium- level MBP, you get 2.66 vs 2.4 GHz, 2Gb more RAM, 320 vs 250 Gb HD, better scren, better battery, SD over express card slot.

Can anyone with a new Pro confirm any of the above?

Thanks

You're just adding to the speculation posting this really. A few people have 'been on the phone' to Apple and been told the same story as you.

Yes but if someone with this model can confirm, we will have something approaching an answer....

If you order the SSD with Apple it still ships with SATA I. I think this is down to the fact that Apple aren't using the more recent and better SSD drives, so SATA I isn't that much of a hold back.

Or obviously not considered enough of a hold back for them to ship out SATA I machines.

I wouldn't be suprised if it's tied to the base models, as you say.

Although there are too many users on Mac Rumors with 1.5Gbps to assume they all went for the base models.

How about going to an Apple store and checking out the mid and high end spec? :)

I just got my 15" 2.8 today and its 1.5gbps...tbh I'm not too fussed as I know I won't be going SSD for a long while yet.
