Hello all. This morning I went out to Stanley Park in the snow, I'd been meaning to go for a while and with the sun out and snow on the ground i had no excuse not to.

A couple of IR to start with:

An ordinary b&w of some trees:

Some daffodils - yes, it is really spring!

All taken with my trusty Canon S2 IS. Thanks for looking.

Scott.

I've been using IR filters in the snow because I've been using IR filters on just about everything - just to see how it looks. I've not yet been through a year of photography, so a lot of situations are new to me. Just experimenting.
I may still have used an IR filter in these shots to get the "IR sky" effect, and possibly to blur the water.

The IR shots are OK, but have a very blue cast to them?
Loving the DoF in the last shot :D

I've never photographed snow using IR so that would also be new to me too. I just didn't see the point in taking a white countryside scene and using an IR filter to make a white countryside scene :) I know IR does more than that but its main stereotype is snowy scenes.

Evening all, thanks for the comments. Interesting points about using the IR, I only got the filter a week or so ago and this is the first time I've properly tried it out. Personally I think it does add a lot to #1, which to me feels more atmospheric than it would have in colour or ordinary b&w (#3 is almost the same shot taken without the filter). As for #2 I did take one with and one without the filter, this is the one without:

The more I look at it now the more I prefer the colour one.

With the blue cast on the IR shots I think it's down to my post-processing since these are my first IRs, but I don't mind cos the cold frosty feel works quite well considering the subjects. This is how #2 came off the camera.

I think the birds were there all the time, the IR one is 15 sec but come to think of it I'm surprised they don't show up at all! I took the WB from some snow.

There is a slight dark-ish blur on the IR shot where the birds are in the non-IR shot! They must've all been on the move!
