As title !!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I'm fuming, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND how this happened - I was chilling with my friend and my phone pops up you sent $230 to some random in Japan for some playstation off Ebay

I've obviously logged into my paypal, flagged it as unauthorised activity, but says it takes 10 days to investigate?!?! WHAT - I don't have $230 free to just take out of my account :( - they paid for it off my paypal linked debit card  - it will push me over my overdraft and I'll get charged :(

I'm so annoyed !! All my systems run Kaspersky and I just do normal internet stuff on my computers and work/play games on them, I just don't get it.

Has this ever happened to someone ? - how good were paypal at dealing with this?

I logged into my ebay account and nothing was there in the 'bought items list' - then i logged out and in again (changed passwords on everything obviously), and this 'hidden' tab appears on the items bought list ?!? - so i press it and sure enough this sodding playstation that i didnt buy is in it  - crafty git obviously hid it in my list somehow.

I dont get it though - why hack my account, buy something and only have it 'shipped' to my address? WHUT?

Has this ever happened to any one ?

It's not "hacking" though. It's social engineering. Someone has correctly guessed your password or you got duped by one of those doppelganger (cloned) web sites to steal your credentials. deviantART members are the worst offenders for over-using the word "hacked"... really gets my goat.

OP, you need to turn on 2-step authentication like what Gmail uses.

I checked its defo the real ebay.....where in ebay do I turn this on? I already use 2 step on google and use text verfication code for paypal.

Okay, call your bank and make sure they deny the transaction so that you're not pushed into your overdraft.

It's a fraudulent transaction, don't accept no as an answer if they start playing games with you.

Yeah I will phone ASAP - they are all 8-8pm every day !!!!

This person made the sale 8.20....probably knew this

OH MY GODD!!!!! Just got this back from paypal ?!?!?!?

What?!?! I didnt buy this item !!! lol - I have tried to resubmit the claim and it wont now as the case is closed.

Absolutely FUMING.

I didnt buy this item !!! :(

What can I do ?!?!?!

Man alive I don't need this stress right now. Iv phoned the bank and they said nothing was showing on my account yet, so iv blocked my debit card, but she can't garuntee it will work..... Uggghhh ud think with plenty of warning they could just stop the transaction, I'm actually shocked how no one is doing anything and doesn't care.... I can't speak to PayPal direct until 8am, at which point they will be getting an earful, I can't believe they have basically told me in a nutshell 'yeah we don't believe you'.... What?? What son?? I think I'd know if I bought anything or not!! Jesus wept!

Gebuine question, sure you didnt get drunk and order somthing?

Or left your phone unlocked near a mate?

What device/ip adress did paypal say carried out the transaction?

Might be you can prove you werent there

Jesus wept of course I'm sure, I'm sober as a judge and don't have the money to buy a playstation. This is why I'm so alarmed, the ease with which the account was compromised combined with how illogical it all is. My theory is:

1. The seller did it and just won't post
2. The hacker emailed the seller post sale to get it posted elsewhere

Obviously iv emailed the seller saying I didn't buy it

Go on to paypal and unlink tbe avcount?

Absolutely, however what's stopped me is worrying if I did this I'd not have an account linked to refund money to WHEN they refund me..... Because they will be doing this, otherwise I'll have to report it as a crime

If Paypal are saying it doesn't look like there has been unauthorised access to your account, and that holds true, then perhaps someone has compromised the computer you use and has purchased the goods that way. Paypal would see the access as being you, because essentially it is your pc, from your IP doing the buying.

Checked your PC for malware and things?

Yeah that's what I thought and will be my first suggestion at 8am on the phone. And yeah obviously ran full system scans using kaspersky 2016 and Microsofts own stuff and came up with nothing

Also I don't see how this could happen, I own 3 computers and one phone, I don't have a family or house mate that would do this on the sly, I'm technically minded and careful, I'm running Windows 10 latest and macOS serra. I'm naturally obsessed with security.

The whole thing is bizarre, my only theory is its a new form of hack using a previously unknown method (it was just a matter of time) or ebay/PayPal made a mistake or there is an error in the system and its linked someone else's purchase to me, again, all theoretically possible.

What I do know which I swear on my parents lives, which I don't say lightly given my dad is recovering from a recent heart attack..... This transaction is 1000% nothing to do with me, and what's scary, so far every one is doubting this...... Awful, if I CAN get this resolved I'm ditching PayPal, where as a day ago I'd be the last person to say this, life without PayPal is going to be tricky, but I cant have money stolen from me, and then be treated awfully when I'm the victim of crime.

Ive had plenty of "hackers" ordering stuff on my ebay account. Definatly wasnt me.

Gd needs to be renamed "ebay and rss feed discussion"

Huh ? What? I wasn't on any devices when the sale happened, and I'm not that thick, I don't just buy things randomly! lol Also especially not with one click.

Most likely social engineering.

How?

Check your PC for malware/spyware.
Change all your password.

Obviously

Dispute the sale, say you never got it, that'll get their attention.

Phoned them now - after 10 million transfers between various phone operators  they are now 'escelating and reopening the case'

Christ, on an actual bike.

You likely (not guaranteed, but likely) entered your username and password into a phishing mail at some point in time.

Either that, or your password was very simple.

Yeah never would :/ and im always aware of if a site is real, verisign/kaspersky checked legit.

Changed all passwords now (it was hard to guess origonally, letters and numbers and not a word used in languge, a random combination of letters), unlinked auto checkout etc in ebay, 2 stepped every account i can think of (of which many were anyway) - paypal say they are investigating now and my bank has frozen my debit card...... still NO ONE, not ebay nor paypal can tell me if my money will actually leave my account however.

:(

So update:

1) Attempt to flag the unauthorized payment in paypal - denied apparently I did it

2) As I can no longer flag it as unauthorised - I sent a web mail form - they take another look - denied apparently I did it

3) Shout at man on phone who was british from paypal - assures me they are looking closer now (they dont seem to understand that the hacker went via my ebay)

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

2 minutes ago I get an email from ebay saying "Unauthorized use of your account -- action required"

NO **** SHERLOCK !! Been flippin shouting a lot for past day or so that this is going on !!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

At least thats a step in the right direction now.......... Jesus wept, It's a complete farce - as soon as my money is back BYE BYE never using that again, unlinking my accounts, use credit card if I must.

Ahhh man, I honestly didn't fill in any forms, lol, I mean, I honestly don't remember it - iv not logged in/out ebay off my anytime in the past month, and i just go the website, I defo don't follow any email links and again, I always check the verisign/kaspersky.

I mean, im not saying its impossible, but im clued up, hence why im so shocked, iv bought other items on ebay like 2 days before, because i remember that - oddly enough, i have not followed this item, its not on my wish list/ watching, its a completely random item..............i dont play any playstation games, im a PC gamer, the social engineering adds are all direct toward my 'profile' iv not used my playstation 3 in many years.............its just a completely random item that got bought.

Highly suspicious - could have been a website that has code to 'check' if another tab in a browser has ebay logged in for example - but that's still 'hacking' / malware / fraudulent................

They could have simply found another way to access an account..........i mean i think its as simple as - this is a new form of 'hack/access/fraud' that ebay/paypal are simply not aware of.

But then, all my open websites are normal ones, not random dodgy ones, the usual you know....OCUK, fb, gmail, youtube etc

Oh my life, I have repeated the issue is NOT resolved several times to paypal and my account is still showing the transaction, as deep and meaningful their replies are so far:

"Thank you for contacting PayPal

From researching your account history, I can see that your issue has been resolved.

We are continually improving our customer service and can be contacted by clicking Contact near the bottom of any PayPal page.

Please let us know if you require any further assistance.Thank you for contacting PayPal

They have sent this twice..........despite me pointing out A BILLION TIMES IT HAS NOT.

What really bothers me, by far, is this massive international company are simply doing the big company version of 'sticks fingers in ears - go away - nerrr ner nerrr nerrr ner'

I mean, this has actually happened - I got robbed...........we have currently got this far in resolving it:

Me) I got robbed

Paypal) No you didnt

Me) I did, because im down £200, and something was bought on my account, that I did not do

Paypal) No you didnt

Me) I did, I'm not thick, I am quite aware of what i have bought and what i have not bought - i wasn't on any device when the transaction happened

Paypal) No you didnt, it was you, go away

Me) ?!?!?!??!?!!!?!?!?

Paypal) The issue is resolved thank you for using paypal

Me) ITS NOT RESOLVED YOU HAVE NOT REFUNDED MY MONEY THAT I DID NOT SPEND

Paypal) The issue is resolved thank you for using paypal

HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS?!

OP, you should probably take a step back, breathe, take 10 minutes to calm down, and then approach things more rationally.

Shouting at people from PayPal is not going to help. In fact if I get shouted at I feel a lot less compelled to try and help someone.

For the love of God calm down.

Why should I ? They are trying to get rid of me, by putting up brick walls instead of helping me.

1) Got robbed

2) The multi billion £ company paypal/ebay who allowed this to happen, who claim to make this sort of thing safer - quite simply think I am lying I got robbed.

Complete, utter, farce.

I can't afford to loose £200 odd and just let that happen, morally, and financially.

Why dont you just write them an email or a letter to whatever UK head office they have (if they have one) and mention you have tried to solve this to no avail through their own procedures and got nowhere so inform them you will be pursuing it through your bank (fraud dept) and the police. Your bank may be able to get it back for you and they then claim off paypal later?

That will be the next step, but because the 'hacker' used my debit instead of credit card, the bank says they won't pay me the money back, they were only able to stop my account.

Just wondering is it possible to set a Credit Card as default payment instead of bank account?

Yeah done that now - i still have my main account linked to paypal, as they will need to put my money back - i had my main account linked as I received payments on it also for my business.

Iv done all the suggestions in this thread.

(Unlink paypal/ebay, make CC main payments, scanned all systems, changed all passwords on all accounts (even non related ones), enabled 2 step log in/verfication for everything)

You've been robbed of £200. Go to the police.

I have they said try to resolve it with the companies first before they step in

Its a pita but ranting won't help in this situation, if you come across as a knob the people on the other end are considerably less likely to help.

I'm not at individuals I am at the company, and I am not being a knob - they are very much however by simply ignoring me and saying i didnt get robbed when i did - if they stop treating me like an idiot and stop repeating over and over 'nothings happened go away' (in a 'polite' way they do), then I will stop treating them like absolute morons & maybe we can progress my case......but were still at trying to get them to understand i got robbed.

Why are you contacting paypal and not ebay, since it was ebay took the money from your paypal account.

Ebay should be the ones returning the money to your paypal account.

I have contacted ebay and they also claim to be investigating this now. What's annoying is the system is clearly broken - some hours after I got off the phone to them, they sent me an automatic email saying 'suspicious activity on your account'

May as well talk to a brick wall.

EDIT 2: Whats even more strange is my mobile phone is acting weird now - its completely eating battery and is red hot, iv scanned it with kaspersky & nothing is shown, but whats weird is some sort of 'driving mirror' app is draining the battery, i think its something to do with mirroring a phone on a car - but i cant find the app in the apps section - im now very suspicious of it due to it being a mirroying app), android phone running very latest avilable software - marshmallow 6.0 i think

Has the money left your bank account?

Not yet - the transaction appear to be a day behind, only upto Mondays transactions are currently showing, 2 transactions should show tomorrow that I DID DO (fuel and food) and IF they paypal sale did go through that as well, however if it doesnt & I did stop my card in time, then it won't.

My next worry is if I DID stop it happening, while it would be good - I am then concerned paypal would pursue me for the money, as they still believe I bought the item at this point in time - like the would put a black mark on my credit rating for 'not paying a bill' and source it to debt collectors or something - even though again, i did not do this transaction.

You don't need AV on your phone, you'll only end up with lower battery life and a sluggish phone. Brush up common sense instead, will yield far greater results.

That the thing - everyone knows me to be the last person this should happen to, i do have common sense and im not stupid with security, shocked.
