Some help unlocking cores on a phenom II

Hey, i have 3 good cores and one faulty because when i unlock all my cores and run prime i get an error on one of the cores and it stops being tested for some reason, is there anyway to unlock one core and have a tri core and lock the bad one out?
I am using this MOBO: Asus M4A785TD-V EVO

which core is the bad one....3 or 4?

You can set windows to only boot with a set number of cores to be seen by the OS, although the bad core is still active, windows and any apps or games that you run will be tricked into thinking you have 3 cores and so only use the good ones.

What OS are you using..?

You will find that your last core is actually just poor quality, needs more voltage to reach that 3.1ghz, up the voltage +0.075v so your at 1.4v That should sort out any instability, assuming your using aftermarket cooler. If not, then only add 0.025v at a time.

I have tried uping the voltage to around 1.5v and even had three cores at 3.7ghz but one won't run, it is actually the second core that fails when i have all them unlocked!

I use windows 7 64bit, how do you disable a core in windows m8?

If the core is a bad one, no amount of extra voltage will make it good.....

Just type MSCONFIG in the search bar and goto the Boot TAB and then ADVANCED and you will see this:

Just set the number processors to 3.

But can i choose which processor to abandon?

Thats why i was asking which core is bad....cores are numbered as such:

Core 0
Core 1
Core 2
Core 3

Does Prime say worker 2 or 3 fails?......

If its 3, using the above method will disable Core 3 ONLY....if its Core 2, then you will have to go into the BIOS and manually select Core 2 as the disabled core and leave Core 3 active, in your BIOS UNLEASH Mode....

Mine might have it, but i am rather noobish when it comes to this sort of thing and i can see no obvious option to do it and was thinking maybe someone else with my mobo had the same problem

i have never seen a disabling core option in bios

Somethings wrong there......according to that Prime is telling you that your 2nd core is faulty, which is one of the cores used when your CPU is in Dual core mode....

I think you may have a faulty 550.......run the test in dual core mode at stock volts and clock speed to be sure.

I have my pc running in dual mode all the time with the cores at 3.7ghz, i had ran prime for 3 hours no problem on dual core, temp of cores around 27 degrees.

Im just going by what Prime is telling me, CPU #1 FATAL ERROR.

In dual core mode your only using CPU #0 & CPU #1.

Very strange.

Also 3hrs isnt really long enough on the torture test, 6hrs minium is recommended...if like me you cant be arsed to leave it running for 6hrs, 1hr of Intel Burn Test on Maximum will be just as good.

Whats even stranger is that when i unlocked cores with windows xp before upgrading i could have swore i ran prime with no problems with 4 cores for abit, i might not have though

I've just bought one of these chips along with a motherboard with a 710 SB so I sould theoretically be able to unlock the other cores. Motherboard is Biostar A785GE. Any one used one of these to unlock?
