Right guys i'm trying to write a letter of support for a family friend who has been called to appear before the Glasgow city council licencing commitee in regards to applying for a PHC (minicab) drivers licence.

now i'm happy for to vouch for the lad as he's a good sort and whilst he was a bit of a rogue when he was younger he's turned into a right decent chap and is only looking for something to let him support his family

this is about all i have so far

Dear Committee Members:
I submit this letter to you concerning the application of NAME REMOVED for a Private Hire Drivers licence. It is my understanding that objections have been raised most notably from the Chief Constable of Strathclyde police Mr Stephen House. Whilst I can understand Mr Houses objections based upon the information available to him I would like to offer the Committee members a more personal view of John.
I have known john for many years as a friend of the family and have watched him change from a troublesome teenager into a doting father and valuable member of the community.

and i'm stuck. anyone suggest where i take it from here. ?

thought i'd ask here for some help as the lad deserves a break and i really want to do my best to help him out with this. and i really think a decent letter of support from a current taxi driver who knows him may swing it for him. BUT my letter writing skills are not up to much so i turn it over to the articulate members of the forum for assistance

Maybe just add something like "It would be a shame to punish a man and his family now, for things he may of done as a child himself!"

How about:

I have known john for many years as a friend of the family and have watched him change from a troublesome teenager into a doting father and valuable member of the community.

Since John's last dealings with Strathclyde Police, he has worked in the the following places (give highlights), married and now has (x) children. He is determined to provide for that family, and has consistently provided a positive role model for his children and this license will assist him to continue to do this.

I hope that the unfortunate choices of his past won't stop you helping John from achieving this aim

If I can be of any further assistance
