Hello everyone. I currently have around 2.5K budget for a gaming PC with intention of video editing & streaming.... and of course the most important thing... GAMING :)

Could you please guys take a look at this configuration for me and let me know if it is a good one.

- SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1200W Fully Modular "80 Plus Platinum" Power Supply - White
- OcUK Value Blu-ray / DVDRW combi SATA - OEM
- Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD
- Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (SH103S3/120G)
- Asus GeForce GTX 980 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C16 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit (CMD32GX4M4A2666C16)
- Corsair Hydro H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW )
- Asus X99-S Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
- Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - OEM (CM8064801548435)
- Corsair Graphite 760T Windowed Full Tower Gaming Case - White (CC-9011045-WW)

£2,284.78

Keep in mind that I'm gonna start off with a single GPU and then later one I might buy another GTX 980.

Thank you very much :)

Hi Welcome :)

This is a little bit cheaper.

A 1200W psu is way over the top even for SLI. The 850W below is plenty big enough.

You probably won't need 32GB Ram even for video editing but I added it into the spec. I reckon 16GB is plenty.

Cases are pretty personal. I went with the Phanteks Luxe. It has a lot of things hidden (PSU,HDD,SSD) so you get a nice clean build. If you prefer the 760T then swap it back.

With the EVGA G2 you can get the nice braided cables. These are optional so remove them if you want.

External Blu-Ray drive doesn't spoil the front of the case.

The LED strip is optional.

This place already feels like home :)
lee32uk, thanks for noticing that I'm trying to do black & white aesthetic build. The cables and the light bar a great touches.

And here comes my ignorance and lack of time spending reading on the internet:

I've been using Asus and Corsair products for a quite a few years now and I feel really comfortable with their IO and features (...in a way).

Does going for the cheaper version will really affect performance in any way?

The other thing is that I've just read this thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18654818)
...and from what I understood is that it's better to have a solid motherboard, CPU, RAM and PSU and wait on the GPU market, instead of blasting all the money I saved for a couple of years?

Thank you :)

You are welcome :)

I usually prefer Gigabyte, Asus and MSI in that order. You get UK warranty support with Gigabyte as well. I avoid anything ASRock, although they seem to have improved over the years.

If you like Corsair (I also like their cases) then stick with the 760T. My personal favourite Corsair case is the 780T as I always wanted a 600T (Never did buy one :o)

You do tend to pay more of a premium with Corsair though, and you don't always get the best value for money. The RM range of power supplies for example are pretty average, but they are almost always more expensive than the likes of Super Flower and EVGA who have far better units (Leadex/G2 etc).

As for Brands, you can't really go that wrong. Things like Ram all come with lifetime warranties.

There are a few things on the Horizon. The new graphics cards from AMD (300 series) will be out maybe April time. I don't think there are any cast iron release dates as yet.

You also have Freesync monitors which work with AMD cards. They are also due next month. There are a couple available for pre-order on OCUK already.

There is also a new cpu from Intel called Broadwell which is supposedly due 1st half of 2015. These are supported by the current Z97 motherboards. After that will be Skylake, but that is on a different socket (LGA 1151).

I think for your uses you would be better going with a Z97 spec. As you say it is mainly a Gaming pc, then the i7 4790K should be better. It will cope fine with Video editing and streaming as well.

Gigabyte have a 2 for 1 offer with their Z97 Black Edition Motherboards, so if you decide that you want to upgrade within 3 years you can swap the board for a different chipset.

Here is a Z97 spec

YOUR BASKET
2 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £479.99 (£959.98)
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £269.99
1 x Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark S "Sabranco" Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £229.99
1 x Seasonic Snow Silent 1050w '80 Plus Platinum' Power Supply - White £199.99
1 x Corsair Graphite 760T Windowed Full Tower Gaming Case - White (CC-9011045-WW) £159.95
1 x SK Hynix 512GB SSD SH910A SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive (HFS512G32MNB-2202A) £154.99

1 x Corsair Hydro H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £89.99
1 x CableMod SE-Series KM3, XM2, XP2/3, FL2, XFX Cable Kit - Black / White £69.95
1 x Samsung SE-506CB/RSBD External BluRay-RW / DVD-RW Drive - Black (Retail) £59.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £46.99
2 x BitFenix Alchemy Premium Modding LED Strip - Connect White 60cm £25.99 (£51.98)
Total : £2,441.44 (includes shipping : £14.75).

The Super Flower psu's don't have any full braided cable kits as yet. Cablemod are working on getting the OK from Super Flower so hopefully they will be available sometime soon.

The Seasonic unit is a great (Albeit more expensive) alternative.

If you wanted to take advantage of the Gigabyte 2 for 1 offer then you would want this Motherboard:

It works out slightly cheaper as a bundle

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£15 Saving + Gigabyte Free Upgrade ** £397.98
Total : £407.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Cheers guys, you've been amazing :)

But can I ask what is/will be the major difference in x99 build vs. z97 build.
And keeping in mind that I would like system which will be on an upgradeable base.

Thank you.

X99 gives you access to CPUs with more cores/threads.

But the i7 4790K has 8 threads already (fine for games) but runs at a higher stock speed of 4GHz.

X99 also has more memory bandwidth because of the 4 channel memory controller and DDR4 speed.

The Gigabyte 2for1 deal allows you to exchange the board (or pay the difference) to a newer chipset within 3yrs, but that may mean needing a new CPU+RAM as things would have moved on by then.
