I want to get a new mobo and cpu.

i also need ram but was thinking when ddr4 will be released as i dont want to get the above if the new ddr4 is released,

I had a look at the web about ddr4 but its all diffrent.

Shall i wait ? anyone has any info when ddr4 will be released?

also when ddr4 is released how much will a typical 8gb cost?

it will be out with the haswell refresh z97,few months time I think

probably cost around the same as ddr3

if ddr4 is released in a few months time i might wait, but when ddr4 is release you need compatible ddr4 motherboard and cpu right?

I mean with ddr4 which hardware do u need to run ddr4 ram?

Coz newly released, the choice will be very limited right?

will there be a big diffrence between ddr4 and a top of the line dd3?

You will need new mob, but cpu u can keep if its not too old, and apparently ddr3 will work on ddr4 mobs

All brands will try to jump on ddr4 and refresh asap to get high sale so dont expect limited choice

One word. Cost.

DDR4 will be hugely expensive up release
12 - 18 months down the line it will be a whole different story once all manufactures switch to producing DDR4
At this point DDR3 will then be far more difficult to obtain

That's interesting!

Will it be as simple as a BIOS update & do we know which platforms will support it? All DDR3 platforms?

I think the z97 Will be the board of choice on the DDR4 to be-honest

But you might be right maybe just a BIOS update for the ones using the z87 boards.

Would like to know if Z77 will see this! Maybe limited to the memory controller on the CPU though.

Guys you will need all new kit.

IMC is on the CPU and is either DDR3 or DDR4 compatible not both.

You will need new CPU/Board and DDR4 memory.

X99 will be the first chipset supporting DDR4.

Z97 is DDR3 Haswell refresh and Haswell platform.

Haswell refresh is 4790 etc which are supposedly better clocking Haswells with improved onboard VRM and no cooling issues.

Was just about to come and psot after radint this thrs today.

I already have the Bios update for the new CFPU's 100mhz bump and better TIM so it is claimed.

Mobo does not need support DDR4 and the new Z97 or whatever its called is near same but 2 extra Intel USB 3.0 ports and AFAIR extra Intel SATA 6Gbit/s and I think SATA 10Gbit/s but not sure if Intel or 3rd party.
Also adds M.2 interface to support Intel’s NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor) but bellow is an example on a Asus Z87.

Edit : Still only 6 Intel 6G ports.(10 was the X99).

I cannot find the link I read about the SATA 10Gbit/s using the SATA Express.

Actually manufactures claim it will be 30% more then ddr3, it will first go on sale only for servers and then end of 2014 pc and laptops with 10% price drop, but hard to predict

Its rumor that ddr4 mobs will be compatible with ddr3

Haswell E is getting ddr4 and maybe broadwell but only on server platforms.
But it's confirmed Amd Carrizo will suport DDR4
