Hello

Recently had to change my old pc as it had intermittent BSOD's and lockups.

I decided to purchase an almost complete system keeping my existing graphics card and using all existing HDD/SSD for added storage.

I had windows 7 on the machine for a week without issues but when I click play on the planetside 2 launcher the machine would bsod doing wndbg on the dmp files suggested it could have been a bad driver or ram.

So I tested the ram for 4.30 hours on memtest with no issue and figured it was a driver issue so re-installed windows.

I installed windows 8.1 this time and everything seems sweet except I cannot install the LAN driver (Cannot install drivers. No intel adapters are present in this computer)

Nor can I install my graphics card driver (installation failed)

I've googled these issues and tried a few things.
- Install LAN driver from included mobo cd
- Install LAN driver downloaded from mobo support site
- Install latest driver downloaded from Intel directly
- Extracted driver into a folder and manually install through device manager

- Ran DDU to clean up any remaining gpu drivers (in safe mode)
- Downloaded latest version from nvidia
- No overclocks running optimized defaults
- Latest bios installed on mobo

On my W7 install I had no issues with the LAN driver or installing the gpu driver and during a windows update a older driver from nvidia iirc 340~ was installed.

Dont know what to do guys this is a pain.

Cheers.

Did you by any chance install a Wi-Fi driver prior to attempting the LAN and video card driver install? If so, uninstall it.

Have you run a system file check to verify the Windows install itself?

Tried using just one stick of RAM, then the other(s), each in different slots? Memtest is a handy tool but not the be all and end all. And four hours isn't that long, despite it sometimes finding errors quicker than that.

Hi Danny thanks for responding.

Just thought I'd give you guys an update I've been also having issues with running updates that I just managed to resolve by...

Running WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool and then doing
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2\edb.log *.tst
net start cryptsvc

In cmd, I then managed to install all updates without issue after which I installed the GPU and LAN driver without any issues.

Hope this helps will post any further developments.

Ok ran into another issue.

Everything was working fine been on youtube, watching netflix and talking to a friend on teamspeak.

I installed steam and started installing planetside 2 once that had downloaded I let the launcher patch and hit play the game started up I logged in and selected my character pressed login and it started loading the map.

It got stuck at 46% I waiting for 20 mins before going to the desktop right clicking on the icon and closing the application, Tried restarting it through steam and it wouldnt work so I went into task manager tried to force close the .exe which didnt work (showed no messages) I hit restart it hanged for a bit before I pressed the reset button and now it bsods on reboot everytime.

Its currently "diagnosing your pc"

Any idea whats going on I bought this almost 2 weeks ago something is obviously broken and i'm struggling to determine what it actually is.

Hey lude.

Yeah I have 3 other drives 2 standard HDD and another SSD.

I just installed W8 onto the other ssd and took the m.2 out.

My best guess is its HD related as the bsod from when I had W7 installed mentioned memory curruption and I/O related.

will keep you updated.

-edit Will just mention that re-stalling W8 on the other SSD (Crucial M4) was a breeze no windows update issues or problems with LAN or GPU drivers.
