Some macro shots with extension tubes attached

I notice that when all the tubes are on the internal flash really struggles to reach to the bottom of the subject, casting massive shadows. I'm still waiting on my external flash to arrive.. would an external flash work well on its own? Or is a shoe cord needed aswell?

The photos posted above were taken with my 580EX attached on top of the camera. For macro a ring flash would help get rid of all the shadows or I guess you can use multiple light sources.
Flash mounted on the camera works well enough, I would consider getting a shoe cord if it wasn't so expensive.

Edit: There was also a lightsphere imitation diffuser attached to the flash for the photos above. Definitely think about investing in a diffuser, a sto-fen or a lightsphere (cheap imitations on the bay works just as well).

I ordered some extension tubes a few days ago, a christmas present to myself I suppose.

Im looking forward to having a play with them!

Thats good to know I won't have to fork out on a cord :)

Just picked mine up, bargin for £23. :)

Same here.. the girl at the (ah honestly this forum and the way its run needs to grow up. STOP worrying about others nicking sales.. makes me sick really) said to me shes amazed how much they have dropped in price. I nearly said yeah its very rare that this place has something this cheap ;)

The store I picked mine up from was amazed by the amount of people buying these, makes a change for them to be selling something cheap. Although I'm sure they won't be that worried, there were still crowds of people in there buying £15-20 memory sticks for £80.

hehe yeah the box of my extension tubes still says on it £74.99. I would not pay anything like that! I think we all here got a good bargin.. but looking at the tubes and what they are I think we paid about the right price for them!! They do amazing things.. but damn they aren't exactly wonders of engineering.. just circular attachments. I'm really glad i didnt splash out on kenko extension tubes.

haha I know what you mean.. i'm in need for a 4GB flash card.. but at £70. What can you say? It is like being mugged.. to add insult they say theres £30 off the 4GB card.. christ.. no wonder the company is having bad times and shops are closing.
