Planning to fix the plumbing outside the house, I think the cold weather has blown the fixings.

Anyway here is the picture to illustrate:

Now whoever fitted it originally used some 36mm waste pipe for the sink drain and 40mm pipe for the bath drainage. The 36mm doesn't seem to be a standard fitting and I know it definitely is that size as I measured it with a vernier caliper inside and outside so don't think it shrunk? I thought they only came in 32 or 40mm fitting for soil/waste pipes?

The drainage pipe coming out the bottom of the sink is also 36mm and it seems like a whole load of work trying to fit 40mm pipe (drilling bigger whole etc...)

I cant seem to find any 36mm L bends to do a quick fix? Am i missing something here? Also can anyone tell me what the circled part is called as that has totally snapped off and will require a new sort of bracket to fit round the standard main soil pipe (110mm) like the one below for the bath drainage.

Also ignore that electrical wire running along the bottom, its not used!

Any help most appreciated.

Cheers

Get hold of a compression fitting, you can use them to "bridge" between different pipe sizes.

How about just taking it apart clean up the joints and re-seal it with clear silicone and save yourself a few quid, maybe even paint it.

The fitting that mates with your Soil Pipe is a "Strap on Boss":p

I've never heard of 36mm waste pipe either. Do these things work off exterior or interior dimensions? Maybe it's 32 inside? (Admittedly it still wouldn't tally with your 40mm outside measurement for the other pipe) My advice would be to print out that picture and head on down to your local plumbers merchant. They are normally really helpful :)

I wouldn't recommend refixing the pipes with silicone sealant as it might fail quickly. Either use push fittings or solvent weld.

Well I was going to use compression fit but wasn't sure if they would make up for the 4mm and could be a loose fit?

Also those joints have totally broken/cracked so wont be able to fix it with silicone unfortunately.

Take all the parts down to your local plumbers merchants and say " this is what i need " or take that picture with you

You will prob need reducers and go down to 32mm

I had a the same issue with the waste pipe in our cloakroom, I assumed it was because it wasn't metric. Anyway I took a piece of the '36mm' pipe to B&Q and was able to find a compression joint that fitted it, a 32mm one. I had to push the rubber seal over the pipe first as it was all a bit tight but it's not leaked at all. Although it's now hidden behind a boxed off section so maybe it is. ;)

OK cheers guys just reading about the compression fittings and i think the 32mm is the one that covers this pipe size, however not sure how i will be able to get the compression end on to the sink drain pipe since its all cemented over.

One of these?

36mm/1"1/4 O/D use 32mm PVC push fittings.
Piccy of sink outlet ? well a piccy of under the sink, showing the outlet and where it goes through the wall?

I've decided I will replace that pipe since its old and will probably go soon anyway. Got some 32mm piping and a 32mm strap on and a 32mm push fit L bend. The sink trap has also been kind of leaking so would be a good idea to replace that with a new 32mm trap. I will replace the old 36mm pipe with some new pipping then cement the gap left by the smaller diameter piping. Hopefully that should hold out for a while! :p
