I just got a fuji s9500. So far, the camera is great, I love it.
Just got a couple of questions though:

What's the usual battery life like on a camera? This camera uses those AA batteries, and already they've ran out  I don't think I've even had an hour out of them.
I'm pretty angry at this as I can't use the camera anymore until I buy new ones, and I'm not buying a new pack of batteries every other day! It takes 4 of them at a time.

I've took a couple of pictures, and I was wondering about lighting. When I use the flash it ends up giving me too much light, and when I don't use it, I don't get enough. Anyone got any tips for this?

Thanks, I might post more questions later.

Regarding the batteries, you might want to invest in a good set. I used to have an s5500 - I bought a set of 4 x 2500mAh batteries, and a uniross sprint charger for £40, definately worth it, as the batteries will recharge in 15 minutes, and lasted for around 400 pictures (of fairly continuous shooting). You generally get what you pay for with rechargeable batteries, high capacity ones do cost a bit more.

With the flash you might want to have a play around with the settings and see if there is anyway to adjust it, or read the manual, or have a look at buying/constructing a flash diffuser.

I've just got a brand new set of AA batteries, and they won't work in the camera  It lets me turn on the picture viewer, but won't let me turn the actual camera on.
Then, when I insert the old batteries I got with it, it lets me do it but dies after a couple of seconds because they've ran out.

It's essential you buy some rechargeable NiMH batteries otherwise you’ll go through Duracell’s in a single shooting sessions.

If you can - Try and bounce the flash off white card :)

You can turn the flash power down in the 'set' menu. I've got the flash on my s9500 set to -2/3 as I find it's quite bright. It also seems to help stopping down a bit when using the flash (F8 ish). I can't quite work out why, but it doesn seem to help (I'm a bit of a flash noob).

Will do, thanks :)

my s5500 on duracel ultra's - 20 pics or less with flash. on 2500mah rechargables - 300 pics and over. it is an absolute requirement that you get rechargables.

I've got another question(didn't see the point in starting a new thread):

The flash on my camera is acting weird, it's not flashing like it did when I first used it. When I take a photo the flash blinks twice, very quickly. It's not like it used to be.
I'm not sure wether I've changed a setting, or if there's something wrong with it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Think you've got it on red-eye reduction. Can be changed from the flash settings button (button or menu, can't quite remember?!)
