someone buying Arma 2 for me .. how

I don't know how you can get by without steam. It'll just get bigger until you have to download it so might as well bite the bullet!

What will get bigger ?

You can usually find things cheaper but i could not find them for under £20 and the site for £20 had ***ppy download speeds.

Hi KaiserDJG, are you going to be running it on the PC from your thread the other day? ARMA 2 is a real hog from memory (I was playing with a Phemon X6/16GB RAM/5850 1GB and then a 2500k/16GB RAM/6950 2GB), prepare for disappoint :(

i don't want steam, i don't like it.
You love steam once you used it for a few games...;)

Most people hated the idea of having there games on steam at first till they found out how much better it was then using retail discs...
One my favorite parts about steam is not needing to have the game discs in the DVD-rom drive to play..

I can't understand how it's possible not to like steam.

I can, having my entire games collection in the hands of Gabe Newell is not a positive thing, I've started buying every game that isn't steam exusive at retail or elsewhere now.

It says i can run it so i'm ok with some dissapointment. i have STO and Diablo 3 to play also, i'm upgrading the pc slowly up to christmas so performance will improve with time.

My sale of my Xbox 360 will generate between £200-£250 and this will upgrade my pc including GFX and Ram update + new case and Heatsink.. i'll spend a little more just to improve my PSU and add extra fans to the case. I'm not 100% on how much Ram my board can hold i'm hoping its 8GB

I don't have anything against Steam, I actually love it but I just had to post this!

My motherboard supports ...

System Memory

* 2x 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DIMM slots
* DDR2 533 / DDR2 677 / DDR2 800 DIMMs
* Supports up to 4 GB system memory RAM

Video

* NVIDIA GeForce 7100
* Maximum video memory in BIOS is 256 MB shared
* Total maximum video memory 1535 MB using TurboCache

I'm getting the MSI 6850 and 4Gb of 667 RAM ... what do you think , should i just get a new board with high level support?

Running ARMA II is demanding even on high end systems. I think you will struggle, if anything due to the low amount of RAM.

What about running Dayz ? This is the reason ive got it, i don't know if this makes a difference since there wouldent be as much going on. I know Arma 2 can be massive with a lot of things happening all at once, but Dayz is smaller isn't it, or does this not make a difference

I'm not sure how it's a bad thing though. People seem to get unnecessarily paranoid about things like this.

DayZ is only a mod, you will not have as much CPU demand for running AI but you still have to push the same game engine and open world environments.

I thought so, for now i'll put up with dropping the visuals down to improve performance then i can up these as i upgrade my rig... a few months and it should run fine.. i'll post the spec i've developed after i get some info back on which MB to upgrade to so that i can up the RAM
