Someone help me choose a car!

Still lookin here and cant make up my mind, found a nice 306, was watchin a couple on eBay and a few have finished under their reserve and I was considering a second chance offer.

This one reads 124k but apparently had a new engine put in with a lot less miles on, what you reckon about that? Trustworthy? I saw another one the same and with a lot less miles on but apparently had been stolen (but recovered and with it logged in the log book) what about that? Here's the link for that one.

Be a big help some insight on these.

Cheers

My main question with the 124k one is why on earth it needed a new engine at less than 120k? Those TD engines go on and on normally.

Keep looking, theres too many cars out there to be considering one that seems/is dodgy.

Yeah spose, just seems for around the price range I'm lookin at, you have to settle with some kind of problem. Was lookin at another 306 that had done 101k but then that said it had had Cat C damage as well, and although it had the logbook think I'm gonna leave it.

The best thing about the 306 is the fact the engine is brilliantly reliable and will last for ever if looked after, unfortunately the rest of the car falls to bits around the engine.

So, one with a new engine is of no real advantage becuase you'd be unlikely to suffer engine problems anyway.

Your a student and somehow you've got 1.5K to spend on a car which is impressive in itself so why on earth are you looking to buy a Money Pit? You've said yourself you don't even drive that much spend your money on something sensible that will see you through Uni without any major expenses cheap Fiesta or Corsa or even a KA. What you need is reliable cheap motoring and Meganes and 306's definately don't offer that!

Without wanting to sound both old and miserable I think the biggest danger here is you getting over-excited and rushing in and buying something that with hindsight probably wasn't a wise move.

It is frustrating but try and remember there are so many cars out there, bargains and good deals will turn up. There is no reason in the world to buy a car thats been written off twice :o

When you find the right car you will look back at others you've seen like that Megane and thank your stars you didn't buy it.

I definitely dont want a corsa ka or fiesta mate, I wouldnt mind one of those new fiestas but thats out of my range.

I have over 1.5k but would like to spend that and I have that much because a) I'm gettin my bank charges back and b) I've lasted a year and a half at uni without getting a student account and therefore overdraft.

Plus my loan itself. Everyone else here spent their overdraft and loan within the first semester of first year so even if I blow the lot I'll still only be at the same place everyone else
