Someone must be able to help...?

So I have MGS5 minimized as I search for what may be wrong. I just tried to run another game and that works fine. So although I have MGS5 stuttering and minimised in the background, other games work at 60fps simultaneously!

Surely this has to be a software issue?

OK so a quick work around I just discovered is to change the resolution in the game menu to something random, then change it back to the original setting, now its butter smooth again (probably for another 30 mins)

Have you tried not overclocking?

Something else to test is to move your GPU to a slot further way from the CPU.

I'm not sure if it could be a problem with heat or performance. It seems like something to do with the input. FPS shouldn't drop when looking around a bit in a static environment.

Do you happen to have a PS2 port and a USB > PS2 adapter to try a mouse via PS2 rather than USB?

That is an idea that I have not though about, I shall try to locate an adaptor and give it a shot.

It is strange that changing the resolution appears to reset the problem.

As Skyfall says the fact that it's only when you're moving the mouse or hitting a key is very odd, and kind of rules out straightforward heat issues. If you can leave 3DMark or something similar running without any issues then it could be a dodgy motherboard connector for the inputs.

That was my initial thoughts, but it doesn't figure when I can 'reset' the glitch by altering the game resolution and then revert to the original, that literally takes me 10 sec's and then I can play for another half hr.

if i was you

run Aida On the CPU/RAM/GPU for 40 Minutes see what the max temps of each thing is & report back.

no ones mentioned the monitor? :P

Could be a monitor issue ;)

Is anyone aware of this happening before and being down to a monitor. Anyone think this figures by how altering the resolution clears the glitch? Do monitors reset like that? I have no idea. I do not have another 1440p monitor kicking about to test :)

I think that it's just working like restarting the game as it is basically reloading anyway.

I don't think it's the monitor either, but I guess it's something to try!

I think that somewhere there is some kind of driver conflict and the more things you try the more things you eliminate.

I don't see how it can be a software glitch, when the OP says he has had the same issue on both windows 7 and 10 (unless the change from 7 to 10 was an in place upgrade, and he has never done a clean install with all new drivers).

After a 50min run, max GPU 77, CPU 59, Core 74, Motherboard 38

I don't think temp monitors are going to help because my guess is the component overheating is not one that is monitored by any sensor (RAM, VRAM, PSU etc).

I think the only way to fully rule everything out would be to do a clean install, clean install the game, and then set the game up with the lowest settings, and gradually increase the game settings load until it fails again.
If it fails on a clean install on the lowest settings, then there is a hardware fault and only swapping out with replacements will help.
If it works up until you turn a specific setting on, you can then get an idea of which component or software is faulty due to what function/setting is causing it.
