someone talk some sense into me...

I'm moving from sli 780's to xfire 290's as I want to try them out.

Take a tip from me - make up your mind (usually the more expensive option), then stick your blinkers on and ignore everyone else :D

I would go with the 290's..... Crossfire just scales so much better then SLI...

And you can run every game with Adaptive Edge Detect Anti-Aliasing..... The BEST quality AA there is...

I have thought about it some more and come up with.

Don't be daft! Hold onto the 780 till 20nm and then upgrade. Anything else on 28nm is just silly and you know it.

This...
20nm will be my next upgrade, but wasn't we expecting this to come this year? How likely will we get it next year.

Could you of picked a more biased and cherry picked result even if you tried?

They've ballsed that up from the get go, they have the cards in slots 1+3 on that XPII, should be 1+5 for dual card setups. Not helping the thermal read outs on the 290's at all.

Edit: Taken from the review:
One card gets how, two will produce a crapload of heat alright. We placed the two cards deliberately so close to each other to see what would happen. In the end the 95 Degrees C thermal limit will keep the cards at exactly these temperatures.

Tbh I think most of us were expecting AMD to deliver 20nm this year, they waited sooo long to offer a 7970 replacement that many must have thought this was the delay.

I don't like to blow my own trumpet (ok I do) but I did call this way back and a couple of the guys made out I was being stupid, with no chance of AMD releasing on 28nm again type comments :D

In fairness, I am surprised they have got this kind of performance and not just AMD, Nvidia as well. Good work :)

I moved to SLI 780s from 6990 + 6970 and cant say I ever noticed micro stutter but I sure noticed when it was gone when I switched to single 780 and when I added the second 780 no change still no micro stutter.

Maybe these 290s that don't use a bridge don't suffer the stutter I had with my 6 series cards.

The result I posted was because it was the first result of a group of tests so you can just click next to see the others that's why I posted that page not because it was a biased result.

There is more CF failures in popular games than there is with SLI and above two cards SLI tends to be better but AMD have improved a bit lately, maybe something to do with the HD 7990.

Called common fact... AMD really ramped up Crossfire scaling when they released the 6000 series...

"Common fact" = I don't know what I'm talking about and making it up as I go along. Otherwise known as nonsense.

Don't make claims like that without evidence. Really they're about the same.

You may be right - CF may scale better but it will be margins and even so you need to provide proof.
