This was the car next to mine when I returned to a Q-Park yesterday...

Had a bit of a heart in mouth episode when approaching as I'm in a new courtesy car, with only 2k miles on the clock, but thankfully there was no damage to it.

I assume something like the person in the bay to the right still had it in reverse when they started it up, but that looks a hell of an impact from a standing start! I hope the person who did it didn't just drive off, as that should have been caught on the CCTV but I felt sorry for the poor bugger who had to come back and find that :(

was the car already there.. could it be the car was damaged when it drove into the car park

It wasn't there when I parked up, no.

I suppose it's possible they had the accident outside the car park and came in to park up? but I wasn't particularly near the entrance.

i would have said barrier-type, looks like the bonnet was hit and pushed back ~ the grille, lights and below look virtually untouched. can't explain how the end of it is still in line/aligned w/ the silver grille trim though, that shoulda been way outta whack given the deformation.

They make exit barriers out of RSJs or something where you're from?
conversely the bonnet is made of cream cheese/aluminium ? but I guess jonny would know.
lack of paint cracking and metal folding looks weird.

what rears of cars other than pick-up trucks would have a contact point so high ... and I guess lorries are not in the car park

Someone's reversed a Chelsea tractor into it. Looks impressive because of the way the bonnet has folded up, probably the bottom of the spare wheel on the back has impacted would be my guess.

Given that the car is still in the parking space i doubt anyone has backed into it, he's rear-ended someone on the way to the carpark imho.
That was my first thought. Can't see any plastics on the floor from lights, grille or other car etc either, but picture doesn't quite show enough of that part.

It seems strange the level of damage when it doesn't look there has been airbag deployed.

Looking at it though, it's not that bad, I'm sure it would polish out!

Alternatively, he could have been really far forward in the bay and whoever reversed in the space in front wasn't paying attention to it.

Do the airbags go off if the car is parked with the ignition off?

I wasn't sure if they did or not. Possibly not, airbag deployment destroys the interior, so would probably write most cars off. It would make sense to not deploy them with ignition off & locked & when unlocked there would be the risk of someone in the car and a vengeful SUV driver reverses into them.

A little more than just a car park bump in that picture, I'm sure most vehicles would have damage across the front of the car, other than a few scratches it does just look to be the bonnet that took most of the impact. Either way, I hope they do get some conclusion about it and that someone gets caught for not stopping.
