Someone was having a bad day...

@Freakbro Did you wait around for the owner to get back, or leave any details? Good on you if you did, it might be able to give some sort of timeline between you parking there, and you returning to your courtesy car.

A little more than just a car park bump in that picture, I'm sure most vehicles would have damage across the front of the car, other than a few scratches it does just look to be the bonnet that took most of the impact. Either way, I hope they do get some conclusion about it and that someone gets caught for not stopping.

Depends a bit on the speed and what they hit - awhile back I unfortunately had a new driver reverse into my parked pickup and they did a ton of damage to their vehicle because they hit the most robust part of mine (fortunately) with the softest parts of their vehicle. Fortunately aside from some paint transfer and the bumper (the rear one on mine is metal and fairly robust) being shifted about a couple of mm* pretty much no damage to my vehicle but theirs was a mess not far off that.

* Contrary to my post at the time where it didn't look like anything had shifted even a mm - but having had it looked at properly the bumper mounts had bent slightly. Also contrary to my post at the time my insurance actually went down 10% on the next renewal rather than the insurance company loading it on.

Waiting wasn't an option and I did think about leaving details but apart from the time I saw it upon return I had nothing to add and I reasoned that if it happened in the car park it should have been caught by the CCTV cameras.

Fair enough, I'm sure there will be CCTV, partly for instances like this, or ANPR. I'm sure if they need any evidence and see you taking pictures of it they will be in contact, although I'm sure it's all fairly obvious and hopefully with CCTV it shows a person leaving the scene.

I wouldn't have left details as they might pass them to the insurance company!

That looks like the shape of a spare wheel from the back of a car such as an early Honda CRV, Land Rover, etc. It's either gone into the back of one of been reversed into.

Definitely got to be a big car sitting high as there's no front bumper damage. Must have taken quite a bit of impact. I guess also completely undrivable as nothing latching the bonnet in place anymore.

could at least have popped a note under his wiper asking him to drop a post here, since you were going to make a thread about it.
